Firefly Archivists & History Club hosts 'Dialogues in Sound and Memory'

The Firefly Archivists & History Club, in collaboration with DM College of Arts, Imphal, hosted a thought-provoking event titled "Dialogues in Sound and Memory" as part of its series "Creative Histories: Remembering Legends" .
The event, held on Thursday, at the Auditorium Hall, DM College of Arts, proved to be a significant gathering for the local community and beyond.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dinganglung Gangmei, Chairman, Hill Areas Committee; Dr Homen Thangjam, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University; and Samuel Duidang, Head, Department of History, DM College of Arts.
The session centred around the theme "Creative Histories: Remembering Legends", offering attendees an opportunity to explore the rich historical and cultural legacies that have shaped the community.
The interactive discussions facilitated an engaging dialogue on the intersection of memory and history, alongside creative approaches to communicating and preserving historical narratives.
The event began with a welcome address by Bhanisana Irom, convenor of History Club followed by a keynote address by Dr Syed Ahmed, teacher i/c, History Club and member of The Firefly Archivists.
During the event, Dhiren A Sadokpam delivered a talk on "Sonic Resistance: Metal Bands in the Crucible of Globalised Anxiety" while renowned Manipuri folk artist Mangka Mayanglambam shared insights on "Folk Music Amadi Magi Wakhallon" .
Akhu (Ronid Chingangbam), poet and lead singer of The Imphal Talkies and The Howlers, reflected on the role of music in politics and peace.
It was followed by the felicitation Momo Laishram, percussionist and former member of the rock band Cannibals; and Guru Jiangam Kamei, singer, guitarist, lyricist, and music composer.
Ganthuillong Kamei, son of Guru Jiangam Kamei, was also present at the event.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Lanleima Leishangthem, finance i/c, History Club.
