Tengnoupal, November 18 2025:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and MLA of Wangkhem AC, Keisham Meghachandra has voiced strong concern that the rights of tribal communities in Manipur's hill districts are being steadily eroded due to alleged large scale misappropriation of Central Government welfare schemes and the acute shortage of infrastructure across key sectors.
He called upon the youth to unite and take collective steps towards building a more equitable Manipur.
Meghachandra made the remarks during a joint organisational meeting-cum-interaction programme held at Aimol Satu in Tengnoupal district, organised by the Tengnoupal Block Congress Committee under the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
The programme saw the participation of several party leaders including AICC secretary and in-charge of Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim, Christopher Tilak; MPCC general secretary (administration) S Jeeten Singh; Tengnoupal BCC president Charanga Mokhulshim (John); former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta, among others.
Speaking at the event, Meghachandra said that the road connectivity in Tengnoupal is in a sorry state, but certificates have been issued claiming PMGSY works have been completed without any progress on the ground.
The MPCC president further claimed that many IVRs in the district have not been included in the work programme of the PWD.
Further, he said, the failure to conduct the ADC election has deprived tribal communities of essential development funds, with no representative in the local body to ensure their proper utilisation.
Meghachandra also charged that crores of rupees released under various schemes, including funds meant for IVR construction, agriculture and drainage development projects under the 15th Finance Commission, have not been utilised properly to benefit the people.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched to provide clean drinking water to every household, has reached the people only on paper and has failed to meet its objectives in the district, he added.
He further expressed concern over rising unemployment in the State, stating that livelihood opportunities remain limited.
He appealed to the youth of the State to unite and work collectively for a better Manipur, stressing that their voices are crucial for ensuring accountability and equitable development across the State.
