State Advocate General to be appointed soon

The post of Advocate General of Manipur, which has been remaining vacant for quite sometime, would be appointed at the earliest, Law Minister Th Devendro today assured the Assembly.
Minister Devendro was replying to a token cut motion moved by Opposition MLAs Dr I Ibohalbi and L Ibomcha during discussion on demand number 26 (Administration of Justice) .
Moving the motion, MLA Dr I Ibohalbi pointed out that post of Advocate General has been lying vacant for the last 6/7 months.
The post of Advocate General is one of the most important posts, from whom even the state government can take advice on legal matters concerning the state.
MLA L Ibomcha demanded to know whether the quota of High Court judges would be removed altogether when a separate High Court of the State is set up and noted that there is slow transfer of cases to the lower courts.
In his reply to the motion, Minister Th Devendro informed the House that the vacant post of the Advocate General of Manipur would be filled up very soon.
The delay in appointing another Advocate General after the previous Advocate General AG Koteshwar was appointed as Judge in Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench, was mainly due to the recent State Assembly elections.
There are also certain things which the government cannot perform with regard to court issues.
During discussion demand number 8 (PWD), MLA Dr I Ibohalbi moved a Policy cut motion and pointed out that the conditions of roads in both the hills and the plains are in really bad shape.
The NHs are also in worst condition during rainy seasons.
Responding to the cut motion, Works Minister Kh Ratankumar informed the House that the government has been repairing the condition of roads along NH 37.The condition of the road from Barak to Jiribam has been properly repaired though the condition of road around Awangkhul area needs more improvement.
The Imphal-Dimapur road would also be repaired at the earliest.
While answering to the cut motion on demand number 6 (Transport), moved by MLA L Ibomcha, who proposed cut down in the fare of Semi-low Floor buses from Rs 10 to Rs 5 and expansion of the routes, Minister Kh Ratankumar said that plying of Semi-low Floor Buses in the state under JnNURM has been taken up on a trial basis.
The number of passengers has also increased and the government would see what it can do regarding the bus fare.
After all the cut motions moved by opposition MLAS were withdrawn, seven demands were passed by the House unanimously.
The seven demands and their corresponding amounts are Demand no.6 (Transport)- Rs 5,69,71,000;Demand no.8 (PWD)- Rs 5,68,9562,00; Demand no.17 (Agriculture)-Rs 1,99,50,26,000; Demand no.16 (Administration of Justice)-Rs19,93,19,000; Demand no.37 (Fisheries)-Rs 30,14,74,000; Demand no.43 (Horticulture)- Rs 47,95,10,000 and Demand no.44(Social Welfare)-Rs 1,45,17,13,000 .
