Ukhrul, April 25 2025:
Sambu Raiping Long (SRL) has expressed deep concern over incomplete and continuous negligence in the maintenance of the border villages from Kamjong headquarters to Gambal via Chatric khullen & Kashung village 1 road constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme.
Speaking to this correspondent, SRL chairman Songachan Zimik said that contractor concerned and authorities have failed to address the deteriorating condition of the Kamjong-Chatric-Kashung-Gambal villages spanning distance of 35-40 km despite their appeals thereby leaving the public to endure daily hardships and exposed to risks throughout the year, when the road becomes nearly impassable even in the dry season.
He said the PMGSY construction road began in 2018 onward in phase manner in order to have all-weather roads in the border villages.
According to Zimik, the PMGSY road became deplorable as the constructed road lacks a proper drainage system, culverts, breast walls and no shingling work on the road, he further mentioned there is no maintenance of PMGSY road from Kamjong to Chatric khullen and the road is covered with thick bushes unable to see any vehicles approaching toward from opposite side.
SRL demanded immediate intervention of the State Government to restore the dilapidated PMGSY road, failing which SRL will pursue legal course/action against the contractors concerned for deprivation to the rural people rights to have a good road.
