Imphal, March 23 2026:
The Lamkhai to Sugnu Road (State Highway) Development and Demand Committee (LSR-DDC) has appealed to the concerned authorities to immediately resume construction work on the Wabagai-Sugnu road stretch, alleging that the project has come to a standstill despite initial progress.
In a press release, the committee stated that the construction of the road began on February 2, 2026, following ceremonial prayers offered to Kha-Na Chaoba Ibudhou Wangbren by Sugnu Assembly Constituency MLA K.Ranjit, along with contractors and officials.
The launch of the project was met with enthusiasm from local residents, who extended their support and even appealed to all to ensure that no obstacles hinder the construction process.
Simultaneously, work was also initiated from the Wabagai Lamkhai side under the supervision of Wabagai AC MLA Y Radheshyam and concerned officials.
The dualside construction had raised hopes among the public for the timely completion of the long-awaited 24.4-km road, which has remained in poor condition for years.
The committee noted that the effort was widely appreciated, with people expressing optimism about finally having a proper and reliable roadway.
The committee stated the Executive Engineer (EE) had even assured that the project would be executed with transparency and completed within six months.
However, the committee alleged that after February 15, the pace of work slowed significantly.
Instead of undertaking major construction from the Wabagai side, only temporary repairs such as filling potholes were carried out, while progress from the Sugnu side also came to a halt.
The situation has reportedly worsened with the onset of the monsoon season, making the road increasingly difficult and hazardous for commuters.
With no alternative route available, residents are compelled to travel on the deteriorating road, risking their safety daily.
The committee further conveyed public frustration, stating that despite assurances and the presence of elected representatives, the people continue to suffer.
It questioned whether such neglect reflects the principles of a democratic system, as residents feel unable to effectively raise their concerns.
Expressing disappointment over the delay, the committee said that the prolonged halt has eroded public trust and diminished hopes of completing the project within the promised timeframe.
In view of the hardships faced by the public, the LSR-DDC has strongly urged the government and concerned authorities to take immediate steps to resume construction work and ensure its timely completion, thereby alleviating the difficulties of the people.
