Emoinu festival celebrated

Imphal, January 21 2016:
The Meitei
community in Manipur today
celebrated Emoinu festival
with religious fervour to seek
blessings from Emoinu, the
goddess of wealth.
The 12th day of
Wakching month in the
Manipuri lunar calendar is
considered an auspicious day
by the Meiteis who perform
Emoinu Eratpa ritual at
every home and public places
to bring peace, prosperity
and wellbeing.
Kangla Religious Committee
and Kangla Fort
Board celebrated the festival
at Kangla Utra Shanglen, a
sacred place located inside
the Kangla Fort here, the
ancient capital of Manipur.
The priests and priestesses
of the royal palace also celebrated
the festival by
performing rituals.
League of
Callow Patriots organised the
festival with great fanfare at
Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri
Mapal in Imphal East.
Rituals were organised as
part of the festival at the
venue where an Emoinu market
was opened and various
fine handicraft products were
sold at a mela.
Adventurous
sports also marked the festival
celebrated there.
The festival was also organised
at Yumnam Leikai
Lairembi Lampak in Imphal
West and several organisations
celebrated it in various
parts of the State.
