Imphal, July 14 2025:
With the Government failing to address the deteriorating roads of the State, residents of the Aimol villages have come together to repair the badly damaged road stretch from Pallel to Aimol Village using public contributions.
Speaking in this connection, a villager named Sialloa Bonny stated that the 5-kilometer road stretch, connecting Pallel to Aimol village is a lifeline for over 20,000 villagers of Aimol Satu, Aimol Khunjai, Aimol Kumbirei, Aimol Chingnunghut, Aimol Tampak, Aimol Khodamphai, Aimol Ngairong, Aimol Chandokpokpi and Aimol Khullen.
He emphasized that the road also serves as an important route for many communities including Meitei, Maring and others in conducting their businesses and other daily activities.
However, for many years the road has remained neglected by the authorities, causing severe inconveniences to the commuters.
Bonny explained that the area suffers from severe water logging during the rainy season and becomes dust-filled during the dry months.
Commuters, and shopkeepers along the road stretch have long endured these hardships due to the deteriorating road conditions.
"Even though the road was repaired 10 years ago under PMGSY, it has never been repaired since then by the authorities, which has led to such worsening conditions," said Bonny.
With no help forthcoming from the Government, and distressed by the continued neglect, the villagers of Aimol community decided to take matters into their own hands.
They pooled their resources to repair the road by filling potholes and levelling the damaged sections of the road using earth and gravel.
Even though the efforts may not provide a permanent fix, the villagers expressed hope that their initiative would ease commuting difficulties, especially for students, farmers, and traders who rely heavily on the road.
The villagers further appealed to the authorities concerned to take up a permanent and scientific approach to repairing the road for the benefit of the villagers.
