Modern College to be shifted

Modern College will be taken over by the government for expansion of the JNIMS.
This has been approved in a cabinet meeting today.
JNIMS expansion has been necessitated for intake of a new batch for MBBS students.
Modern College will beshifted to the Porompat PS location.
The PS will be housed together with Imphal East district police HQ as per the cabinet decision.
After a thorough discussion, the cabinet further approved to the taking over of 2.18 acres of land from Soibam Leikai (village no.25) .
The land to be taken over is currently occupied by 58 families.
Cabinet decided to purchase the land after negotiation with the owners as acquisition of land under related acts will take time.
The cabinet has earmarked ' 11.41 crore for purchasing the land, the source said.
A decision to evict encroachers in the surrounding area of Indian Army War Cemetery at Hatta was also taken in the cabinet meeting of today.
The move of the government was related with the demarcation of land of the cemetery before handing it over to the Commonwealth War Grave Commission, the source said.
The cabinet further discussed and approved the creation of posts in the revenue department.
The step is to be taken up to ease the problems of the employees of the department.
