Manipur observes World Cancer Day with call for early detection, support

World Cancer Day was marked across the State today with events aimed at raising awareness, improving education, and promoting collective action against cancer.
RIMS
The Departments of Radiation Oncology and Pathology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, jointly observed World Cancer Day 2026 at the OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, Imphal, with the theme "United by Unique" .
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; Prof L Rajesh Singh.
Dean (Academic), RIMS; Prof Y Sobita Devi, Head, Department of Radiation Oncology; and Prof Sushma Khuraijam, Head, Department of Pathology, RIMS, Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sunil Kumar emphasized the institute's commitment to patient-centred cancer care, highlighting efforts in prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment.
He highlighted that through strong collaboration between pathology and oncology, the institute focuses on cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and compassionate treatment.
He further stated that with expanding faculty strength, upgraded infrastructure, and future plans for comprehensive cancer services, RIMS remains hopeful, united, and dedicated to serving the people of Manipur and neighbouring states.
The programme focused on creating awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of individualized, patient-centred cancer care.
Intas Foundation
Intas Foundation also observed World Cancer Day at its Apna Ghar facility in Keishamthong, focusing on people-centred care and emotional support for patients and caregivers.
Dr Irom Anil Singh, resource person, conducted an interactive session with patients and caregivers, highlighting the importance of mental strength and positive thinking in cancer treatment.
He emphasized that fear and negative thoughts can deeply impact patients and families, and encouraged participants to remain hopeful, emotionally strong, and united in their journey.
The observance provided a supportive platform for sharing experiences and building collective resilience.
Babina Hospital
American Oncology Institute (AOI), Babina Speciality Hospital, observed World Cancer Day at its premises in Khabeisoi today to raise awareness about the disease and the importance of early detection and treatment.
The programme saw participation from doctors, nurses, and staff of the hospital.
At the event, Dr Thangjan Dhabali, Managing Director of the Babina Group of Companies, emphasized that cancer is curable if diagnosed early, sharing the hospital's success in treating over 40,000 patients.
He also shared the group's journey, from diagnostic services to establishing a comprehensive cancer treatment facility in collaboration with Cancer Treatment Services Hyderabad, equipped with infrastructure and expert doctors.
As part of the event, an interactive session was also held with patients currently undergoing treatment at the AOI, Babina Speciality Hospital.
