Imphal, February 03 2026:
Two trucks transporting sand from Dimapur have been stuck at Mantripukhri for approximately 20 days after the contractor who hired them failed to pay the transportation charge.
Contractor Ashok Shani from Uttar Pradesh had reportedly hired the two trucks at the rate of Rs 1 lakh per month with the vague assertion that the sand will be unloaded at "Assam Rifles Camp Manipur" .
The trucks were owned and driven by Ashok Gupta from UP and Govind Prasad from Bihar.
They remained stranded at a roadside in Mantripukhri for a prolonged period without payment and information about an exact unloading site from the contractor.
Recently, Ashok Gupta partially unloaded his truck at Sajik Tampak Assam Rifles camp as per the direction of the contractor while Govind Prasad remains stuck with a truckload of sand and his wife and children who accompanied him in the journey.
Notably, Ashok Gupta met with an accident while returning from Sajik Tampak.
He received first aid at the Assam Rifles camp and is recovering well after getting further treatment at RIMS Hospital.
In this connection, a team of Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) led by general secretary Ksh Sanjoy met with the aggrieved truckers today at Mantripukhri after they reached out for help.
Considering their daily challenges, the team handed over essential commodities to the drivers.
According to Ksh Sanjoy.
they were able to get in contact with contractor Ashok Shani after getting his mobile number from the drivers.
Evading payment, the contractor reportedly told them to wait for a week.
If he was a local contractor, MDA could have met with him personally and resolved the issue, he maintained.
However, Ksh Sanjoy assured to offer all possible help to the unfortunate drivers in consultation with the concerned authorities.
