Imphal, July 27 2023:
Denouncing the torching of Meitei houses at Moreh on July 25 and 26, the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has demanded withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Moreh and the rest of the State.
A statement issued by Nerish Mangang, secretary information and public relations, FOCS, cited alleged inaction by the Central Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) in the face of widespread arson at Moreh as a reason for this demand and also called for deployment of additional State forces to strengthen the numbers of the security personnel guarding the eastern border of Manipur.
Further, FOCS pointed out the deplorable condition of Manipur Police Commandos stationed at Moreh who have reportedly been confined to their station.
FOCS also demanded proper supply of consumables and other essential items and measures to ensure a conducive environment so the Commandos can perform their duties properly.
Referring to the incident where two buses used by RAF were burnt down by a Kuki mob at Saparmeina, Kangpokpi, FOCS also called for stringent punishment against the culprits and urged the authorities to trace the whereabouts of the two bus drivers who are allegedly missing.
FOCS also decried the designs to construct a graveyard for 'Kuki narco terrorists' who have lost their lives in the conflict at State Sericulture Office Complex which is located in the adjoining area of Bishnupur and Churachandpur district.
Thus, FOCS appealed to the State Government to monitor the situation strictly and prohibit the construction of such a graveyard.
