Imphal, December 17 2023:
Taking strong exception to the deafening silence of the MPs on the violence in Manipur at Parliament, the Congress party has said that the only option left to safeguard Manipur is to wipe out BJP from the State.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan today, vice president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Hareshwar Goswami said that they submitted a memorandum to all the three MPs from the State to raise the issue of Manipur during the winter session of the Parliament which began on December 4 and will continue till the 22nd of this month.
Unfortunately, not a single MP has raised the issue, he said and claimed that the MPs instead informed them (the Congress party) that they are waiting for approval from the Central leaders to take up the situation of Manipur and discuss it.
Saying that thousands of families are still taking refuge elsewhere while the State's economy is in bad shape due to the violence, Hareshwar Goswami asked why the three MPs are hesitating to raise the issue of Manipur on the floor of the Parliament.
There is not much time left to discuss the Manipur issue during the winter session of the Parliament, the Congress leader continued.
Further stating that the MPs from the State should not seek approval to hold discussion on Manipur, he added that they (the MPs) can raise the matter during question hour or zero hour if they sincerely want a solution to the ongoing conflict.
Even the security forces are unable to stop the aggression of narco-terrorism, he claimed and added that it is mostly the village volunteers who are at the forefront protecting the State's integrity against all odds.
Many Meeteis, though assumed dead, are still missing without any lead or where their bodies could be, the Congress leader maintained and added that internet was also shut down in the State for six months under the BJP Government and the same will be remembered for years to come.
It is also for the first time that buffer zones have been created in Manipur dividing the hill and valley districts of Manipur and Assembly session convened for a meagre nine minutes under the regime of BJP, Hareshwar continued.
Many schools at Churachandpur and Kangpokpi have also been affiliated to CBSE without the knowledge of the State Government and it doesn't happen anywhere else, he said.
Saying that Chief Minister N Biren has been boasting about the achievement of BJP by sidelining all the grievances of the people, the Congress leader accused the State Government of keeping the people confused instead of solving the problems.
He then said that people cannot expect anything from the BJP and as such they must be shown the door.
