Workshop / production of 'Ras Phangnaba' concludes

The valedictory ceremony of the ten-day workshop cum production of Ras Phangnaba organised by Academy For Cultural Resources and Training (ACRT) under the Cultural Functions and Production Grant Scheme (CFPGS) of the Ministry of Culture was held yesterday at Nepra Company Makha Leikai Community hall, Thoubal.
The closing ceremony of the ten day workshop was attended by Dr Waikhom Gojen Meetei, Padmashree awardee as the chief guest; Dr Yumnam Mahendrakumar, national secretary, Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy New Delhi as the functional president and Laimujam Pratap, secretary, Smart Security Service Manipur as the guest of honour .
Speaking on the occasion, Padmashree awardee Dr Waikhom Gojen Meetei maintained that art & culture and sports act as identifiers for the tiny State of Manipur at the global stage.
However, the benefits and opportunities provided by the Government to artists and sportspersons leave much to be desired, he said.
In addition, the condition of artists is much worse in comparison with sports persons, he said.
Stating that the Government led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh has introduced a scheme for the benefit of artists, he called for the launch of more such schemes for the welfare of artists in Manipur.
Delivering the keynote address, Sagolshem Singhajit, secretary, ACRT shared that the workshop was conducted as part of the Ministry of Culture's effort to preserve and promote different artforms.
It may be noted that the workshop began on December 7 .
ACRT also handed over participation certificates to the participating artists, gurus and elderly persons along with a winter blanket.
As a part of the closing ceremony, a production of Ras Phangnaba was also presented before the gathering.
