Imphal, December 17 2023:
The Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) has appealed to one and all to remember and stand in solidarity with the victims of the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur during the solemn season of Christmas.
"As the Christian community in Manipur and the rest of the world prepares to celebrate the joyous occasion of Christmas, we are reminded of our duty to extend compassion and support to our brethren who have lost their dear and near ones and facing the hardships of internal displacement due to the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur," said a statement issued by MBC general secretary Rev K Losii Mao.
Saying that the ethnic conflict in Manipur has displaced thousands of families, forcing them to leave behind their homes, livelihoods and sense of security, the MBC once again appealed to all to be mindful of those who are facing the challenges of displacement and uncertainty in the State while celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Christmas is often considered as a season of hope of peace, hope and joy, it said and appealed to all to extend a helping hand to the displaced people this Christmas and consider contributing to local initiatives or organisations that provide aid, shelter and support to internally displaced families in Manipur.
Acts of kindness, whether through donations, volunteering, or prayers can make a significant impact on the lives of those who are facing adversity, the MBC said.
The MBC went on to state that the essence of Christmas lies in loving and being kind not only to those who love us but also to those who are deemed undeserving.
"By remembering and actively supporting our internally displaced brothers and sisters in Manipur, we embody the love of Jesus and contribute to the creation of a more compassionate and inclusive society," the MBC added.
