Imphal, May 29 2025:
CPI Manipur State Council has asserted that the Gwaltabi incident was an unpardonable offence committed by the PR administration.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhavan here today, CPI State secretary Athokpam Nabachandra said that the Gwaltabi incident challenges the people, identity, integrity and history of Manipur.
A Manipur State Transport (MST) bus carrying a team of media persons to Ukhrul for covering the opening ceremony of the 5th Shirui Lily Festival 2025 on May 20 was stopped by troops of 4th Mahar Regiment at Gwaltabi and the bus was forced to cover the word "Manipur" painted on its front.
This sparked widespread condemnation and protest across the State.
Manipur is an integral part of India and as such, any challenge to the State's integrity is a challenge to the whole country.
This fact must be known to both the PR administration and the Central Government, Nabachandra said.
This shocking incident shows that the BJP Government has no intention to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur, he said.
A single word from the Governor could have soothed the hurt sentiments of the public but that time has gone now.
Now the Governor must bear full responsibility for the Gwaltabi incident, he asserted.
Although the State BJP has condemned the incident, they have not done anything to resolve the issue, he decried.
