Prof M Iboton Singh Merit Award presented

Imphal, March 28 2025: Prof M Iboton Singh Merit Award for the year 2023-24 has been conferred to Albert Yumnam (MA Economics), son of Yumnam Prembarta Singh and Nandita Devi Urikhinbam of Singjamei Wangma Kshetrileikai.

The award was presented on Friday during a function organised by the Economics Department, Manipur University at its Mini Lecture Hall.

The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a citation.

The award is sponsored by M Iboton Singh & M (O) E Banabati Devi and family.

Notably, Prof M Iboton Singh, a Senior Fullbright Fellow & Visiting Associate Professor, University of Tennessee, Knox Vile, USA, played a stellar role in popularizing Economics and served in Economics Department, Manipur University for 20 years in various capacities contributing immensely to policy making in Manipur.

As part of the event, a Prof M Iboton Singh Special Lecture in Economics was also conducted on the theme.

"Examining economics development in North-East India: Theory, practice and implications".

The lecture was delivered by Prof Bhagirathi Panda, Economics Department, North Eastern Hill University.

Prof L Tombi Singh, former Vice Chancellor, Manipur Technical University; Prof Memcha Loitongbam, Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University and Prof M Hemanta Meitei, Head, Economics Department, Manipur University were also present at the event.
