Imphal, June 26 2025:
Condemning the recent attacks on innocent Meitei farmers by Kuki militants, the Meitei Alliance has appealed law enforcing forces to nab the culprits immediately.
It has further appealed to the Government to implement clearly defined rules of law and ensure that the fundamental rights, safety, and dignity of every citizen are restored and protected.
A press release issued by the Media Coordinator of Meitei Alliance presented a timeline of recent attacks on farmers by Kuki militants beginning from 15 June 2025, in Sadu Lampak, Leitanpokpi, Imphal East to the second attack on June 19 which injured 60 year old Ningthoujam Biren in Phubala, Bishnupur.
Last year, a woman farmer Sapam Sophia Leima was killed in Saiton on November 7, it recalled.
It added that the phrase "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" rings hollow in Manipur when jawans (Central Security Forces) are heavily deployed but kisans (peasants and farmers) are left unprotected.
Meitei Alliance asserted that if the Government of India is committed to a "Zero Tolerance Policy" against terrorism, it should wipe out Kuki cross-border terrorists operating in Manipur.
The Government of India's commitment towards suppressing terrorism becomes questionable if it indulges in talks with Kuki terrorists to extend Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact despite the Manipur legislators revoking it, said the press release.
It noted that in response to continuous violations of the agreed ground rules by Kuki armed groups, the Manipur Government abrogated the SoO pact with KNA and ZRA on March 10, 2023 and the Manipur Legislative Assembly subsequently passed a unanimous resolution not to extend the SoO agreement with Kuki militant groups on February 29, 2024.Unfortunately, the President's Rule, instead of taking up stem punitive actions against the Kuki groups under SoO, is facilitating the relocation of their camps to new sites.
It expressed worry that such leniency will cause the people of Manipur to suffer further under the weight of prolonged violence and uncertainty.
