State-level 'World Veterinary Day' observed

Imphal, April 26 2025: Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services organised a state-level programme for 'World Veterinary Day' at the Farmers' Training Hall, Veterinary Complex, Sanjenthong on Saturday.

A release issued by Directorate of Vety & A.H Services, Manipur informed that the programme was attended by joint director Dr L Gojen Singh, retd director Dr Th Jeevan Singh, retd.joint director Dr M Rajendro Singh and joint secretary Dr Polem Lenin Singh.

The secretary applauded the department for completing the 21st Livestock Census 2024-25 well ahead of the deadline.

Moreover, the secretary appreciated the recent concerted efforts in organising Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) campaigns in the near and far corners of the state.

The department has recorded a total of 1,19,876 ARV from April 1, 2024 till April 25, 2025 in Veterinary hospitals/dispensaries of the state.

Additionally, in the month of April 2025 alone, 699 ARV camps, 597 awareness camps were conducted and 37,182 animals were vaccinated against rabies.

The programme also included a technical session on the topics, "Role of the veterinary sector in the control of rabies" and "Animal health takes a team" .

It may be mentioned that 'World Veterinary Day' is observed annually on the last Saturday of April to recognise and celebrate the vital contributions of veterinarians and the broader veterinary community in advancing animal health, welfare, and public safety and this year's theme, announced by the World Veterinary Association, is 'Animal health takes a team' .

In keeping with this theme, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Government of India organised a national-level workshop on Saturday at AP Shinde symposium hall, NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi, with Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Government of India as chief guest.

A team of officers from the State Veterinary Department, Manipur led by director (Vety & AH) Dr RK Khogendrajit Singh attended the national workshop .
