Capacity building-cum-input distribution programme held

A capacity building-cum-input distribution programme under "Climate Resilient Agriculture" was organised today at the Conference Hall of Loktak Farmer's Hostel, ICAR Manipur Centre, Imphal under the "National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)" Project, KVK Chandel.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr Khumlo Levish, SMS (Agronomy), Dr Kangjam Sonamani Singh, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil & Water Conservation).
The Nodal Officer, NICRA Project, Chandel in his keynote address stressed the need and importance of working on enhancing resilience of the local agriculture practices to climate change and climate vulnerability through strategic research, development, demonstration and application of improved production and risk management technologies.
The chief guest of the programme, Ts Gladney Monsang, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, expressed that a diversified cropping system is needed for enhancing income and urged the farmers of Chandel to focus more on organic fertilisers and to minimise the use of chemicals in their farms.
Dr Ch Basudha Devi, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR Manipur as the guest of honour expressed her desire to see the farmers of Chandel as shining examples of perseverance and sincerity in the present situation of changing weather patterns.
She assured to provide all means and help possible to make the tribal farmers of the district achieve sustainability and profitability in their farming activities.
Dr A Ameeta Devi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel in her presidential speech pointed out the need for an integrated farming mode incorporating livestock enterprises to mitigate crop failure or low farm return in the district.
Various resource persons deliberated on wide ranging and useful topics ranging from vermicomposting, beekeeping & improved composite fishery techniques to sustainable crop and goat production.
Later, input materials in the form of ducklings, goats, feed, medicines, feed supplements, waterers, shade net (75%), seeds of paddy, groundnut, soyabean and brush cutters were distributed to the 36 farmers from Chandel who participated in the said programme.
