Governor lays foundation for CCpur court building

Imphal, March 23 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla laid the foundation stone for construction of district & sessions' court building of Churachandpur and also announced creation of new positions within the Chief Justice Secretariat of the High Court.
Speaking at the 12th anniversary of the High Court of Manipur, here, on Sunday, the Governor noted that Manipur has a rich judicial legacy starting from the ancient times of the courts of Kutchu and Pacha.
With the passage of time, the judicial administration in the state transcends through various establishments - The Cheirap Court which still stands nestled in the heart of Imphal city, being one of the most important judicial establishments in the history.
In the Pre-independence era, the Manipur State Durbar used to hold both original and appellate jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters, he said.
The Governor continued, "Reflecting the cherished judicial legacy, we believe that this day holds profound significance as it marks not just the passing of another year but a celebration of the continuing journey of justice, fairness, and equality for all citizens of our state".
Congratulating the Chief Justices and the Judges of the High Court of Manipur, Ajay Bhalla said, "All have worked tirelessly with dedication to ensure that the rule of law prevails in our state" .
While expressing appreciation for the presence of judges of the Supreme Court of India, and Law and Justice Minister, the Governor said it is a clear reflection of the attention and the care that the entire nation has towards to Manipur state.
He further stated that the day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress the state has made in the last decade, since the establishment of the High Court of Manipur.
He also expressed confidence that High Court of Manipur will continue to serve the people by ensuring a speedy justice delivery and the efforts of the court will inspire the younger generations in the days to come.
The celebration was attended by Supreme Court of India senior most judge Justice BR Gavai, who is also the chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), and other SC judges including Justices Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Viswanathan and N Kotiswar Singh.
Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Ministry of Law & Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, High Court of Manipur Chief Justice D Krishnakumar along with other judge Justices A Bimol Singh, A Guneshwar Sharma and Golmei Gaiphulshillu, advocate general, representatives of Bar Council and Bar Association, chief secretary, security advisor and DGP also attended the celebration.
Judges of the Supreme Court and Union Minister of State for Ministry of Law and Justice also inaugurated several key projects and also laid the foundation of various new projects during the event.
Governor also witnessed a spectacular cultural performance shown by the
artistes of JNMDA .
