Jiribam, Pherzawl and Kakching celebrate 5 years of Nasha Mukt Abhiyan

Jiribam/Pherzawl/Kakching, November 18 2025:
The District Administration Jiribam, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office and District Child Protection Unit, celebrated the 5-year milestone of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan at the Conference Hall of the DC Office, Jiribam, on Tuesday.
The event was held under the theme "Nasha Mukt Bharat Khushaal Bharat", and was part of a nationwide campaign.
Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam Krishna Kumar, administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan pledge to the gathering, emphasizing the district's commitment to becoming a drug-free zone.
The event was held in conjunction with a nationallevel celebration at Amritsar, Punjab, which was attended by PM Narendra Modi, Governor of Punjab Shri Gulab Chand, Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann, and Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar.
A special message from the Prime Minister was read out during the event.
The District Child Protection Unit, Jiribam, also celebrated the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan at three child care units: Gulamchat Children Home for Mentally Challenged Girls, Gulamchat Open Shelter Home for Boys, and Lairembi Shanglen Children Home for Girls.
District Child Protection Officer H Ibeyaima Devi administered the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan pledge to the children.
Pherzawl
The District Administration of Pherzawl also observed the fifth anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) with a district-level programme at the DC Conference Hall, held in coordination with the national live-streamed event.
Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching administered the pledge and stressed the need for stronger preventive measures to protect children and youth from substance abuse.
She urged parents, institutions and communities to take collective responsibility in promoting a drug-free society.
Joel G Haokip, ADC/ DSWO and Nodal Officer for NMBA, warned of the deep social impact of addiction, noting that unchecked substance abuse could harm future generations.
He emphasised sustained, community-led preventive efforts.
Alongside the district-level observance, educational institutions and anganwadi centres across Pherzawl marked the occasion.
Schools conducted awareness activities under the NMBA campaign, where teachers and students took a collective pledge to refrain from drug use.
The national NMBA anniversary event was streamed live across multiple locations in the district.
Kakching
The District Administration Kakching, led by Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, today celebrated the 5th anniversary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at the DC Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat, Kakching.
Officials from various departments, including ADM P Shantikumar Singh, AC to DC, SDCs, DSWO team, NIC representatives, attended the programme and took Drug-Free India pledge during the event.
The main function held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab, was also webcast live for participants in Kakching.
Similar programmes were also held at Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCAs) and Child Care Institutions (CCIs) across the district, where pledges were administered to support the Drug Free India movement.
These activities were jointly organised by the DSWO and District Child Protection Unit (DCPO) of the Social Welfare Department.
Meanwhile, the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) in collaboration with the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Cell, District Health Society Kakching and District Police launched a "yellow line campaign" at various schools in the district.
The NTCP yellow marking is a campaign to draw a thick yellow line 100 yards (300 feet) around educational institutions to indicate a tobacco-free zone, where the sale of tobacco products is strictly prohibited under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003 .
