The 134th Patriots' Day was celebrated across the State today by paying rich tributes to the martyrs like Bir Tikendrajit, General Thangal, Paona Brajabashi and other unknown Manipuri soldiers who laid down their lives for the sake of protecting the sovereignty and integrity of Manipur during the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 .
RIMS
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, today observed the 134th Patriots' Day at the New Examination Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
The solemn occasion honoured the memory of the brave heroes of Manipur who fought valiantly against the British forces during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.The event began with a floral tribute ceremony led by Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital in remembrance of the martyrs whose courage and sacrifice remain an enduring inspiration for generations.
Deputy Director (Admn), Principal of Dental College, Principal of College of Nursing, Heads of Departments, CAO/FA, faculty members, nursing officials, students and staff of MSS RIMS, Imphal gathered to pay their respects and reflect on the significance of the day in Manipur's history.
A patriotic song was presented by Dr AK Ibohal Singh along with a team of nursing scholars.
SAINIK SCHOOL
In memory of the great souls who sacrificed their lives in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, Sainik School Imphal observed Patriots' Day at the school campus in Imphal.
Col A Rajiv, Principal, Sainik School Imphal led the staff and students of the school in paying tributes to the brave heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.
At the event the Principal emphasized the importance of remembering the heroes and the ultimate sacrifices they made for the motherland while fighting the British invaders.
CRPF
86 Battalion CRPF, Lamphelpat Imphal, also joined the observation of Patriots' Day organised by the Savio English Higher Secondary School, Thangmeiband today.
The event was attended by W Nandini Devi, Second in Command, 86 Bn CRPF; officers and personnel of 86 Bn CRPF.
On the occasion, officers/personnel of 86 Bn CRPF, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students of Savio English Higher Secondary School extended their deepest respect and humble tribute to the brave heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 .
LIONS CLUB
As part of the observance of 134th Patriots' Day, Lions Club of Imphal, Lions Club of Imphal Valley, Lions Club of North, Lions Club of Imphal Northern Hemisphere, Lions Club of Imphal Valley Nextgen and Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Imphal West District Branch jointly organized a blood donation camp at the Blood Bank of RIMS, Imphal.
At the event, Manas Maisnam expressed that organising a blood donation camp on Patriots' Day is a Permanent Project of the participating Lions Clubs.
He continued that as donation of blood is considered one of the highest forms of selfless service that can be rendered by a person, it is organised to honour those brave hearts who had sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
Altogether, 53 units of blood were donated during the camp.
Awareness pamphlets on Lions Club and its relation with Helen Keller were distributed in connection with the centennial year celebration of Helen Keller's historic "Knights of the Blind" speech, delivered on June 30, 1925 at Ohio International Convention of Lions Clubs.
Earlier, members of Lions Club of Imphal offered floral tributes to the patriots in a simple function held at Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou.
Lions Club of Imphal Greater also organised a voluntary blood donation camp at Blood Bank & Transfusion Unit, JNIMS today under the theme, "Give Blood, Give Life-A Tribute to Our Patriots".
During the camp, members of Lions Club of Imphal Greater, JNIMS Students Association MBBS, and other volunteers donated their blood.
COA
In remembrance of the brave heroes who laid down their lives defending the sovereignty and dignity of the land during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, the 134th Patriots' Day was observed today at College of Agriculture (COA), Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
Prof Indira Saranghtem, Dean, COA, along with faculty members, Scientists, staff and students of the college honoured the departed patriots by offering floral tributes in their memory.
Justice Committee
Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs & Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) celebrated the 134th Patriots' Day at the jubilee hall of DM College of Teacher Education, Imphal.
The observance was graced by by dignitaries, including Lt General (Dr) Konsam Himalay Singh, former Chairman, MPSC; Yumnam Dilipkumar, consultant, UCM & COCOMI; Prof L Hemchandra Singh, Dean, School of Life Sciences, DM University; Dr Konika Khuraijam, Principal, DM College of Teacher Education; Ningombam Ibochouba, managing director, BIPL; and Joychandra Konthoujam, chairman, Justice Committee.
Offering floral tributes to the brave martyrs and remembering their sacrifices were the main highlights of the event.
ABVP Manipur
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Manipur observed Patriots' Day with deep respect and patriotism in various educational institutions across the State today.
The day was marked by floral tributes and remembrance of the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the motherland.
The programmes were organised at Manipur University, NIELIT Imphal, Government Polytechnic College, NIT Manipur, HIT Manipur, and Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
In each campus, ABVP karyakartas, students, and faculty members gathered to offer floral tributes and recall the heroic sacrifices of the patriots.
Apart from the campuses, the observance was also held in different districts of Manipur where ABVP district units organised similar programmes.
Students and youth participated in large numbers, holding the National Flag and chanting patriotic slogans.
MPP
Manipur People's Party also celebrated Patriots' Day today by paying rich tributes to the forefathers who fought against the British in the Anglo-Manipur War 1891.The event held at Emoinu Shanglen in Lamboikhongnangkhong was graced by dignitaries, including S Broken, president, MPP; Dr N Joykumar, retired Professor, History Department, Manipur University; Prof Shyed Ahmed, History Department, DM University; Grace Thumra Shatsang, former president, Tangkhul Sanaolong; Atongpi Kamei, president, Kabui Mothers' Association Manipur; H Binodini, coconvenor, Khwairamband Ema Keithel Joint Co-ordinating Committee for Peace; Khuraijam Athouba, convenor, COCOMI; L Loiyumba, home secretary, UFO; Jeetendra Ningomba, president, CCSK; Sunil Karam, former president, UCM; and (retired) Prof W Nabakumar.
Similarly, Socialist Students Union of Manipur (SSUM) also celebrated the 134th Patriots' Day at Timukhong playground in Imphal East district today.
It was attended by S Yaima, president, SSUM; L Open, Tumukhong VA; Angom Ningthou Angom Poreiton, Sana Konung; K Megha-chandra, commander, AT Unit 52 Moirangpurel; N Naothing, commander, AT Unit 52 Itham; Y Basan, LKKVF and political activist Sapam Kangleipal among others.
As part of the event, a statue of Late Chingakham Lamyanba who gave his life in the ongoing conflict was also unveiled.
Many other organisations like the Road Side Vendors Welfare Association, Khwairamband Ima Keithel; NEINASANG Club; Manipur State Shumang Leela Council; Dhanamanjuri University Students Union; Khurai Block Congress Committee; BJP Patsoi Mandal; Peace & Integrity Committee Kyamgei and All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup; Manipur Semgat Sagatpa Lup; Saraswati Institute of Management and Paramedical Sciences; and Ethno Heritage Council also observed Patriots' Day today by paying rich tributes to the brave heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland in the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 .
