ASUK calls shut down on Aug 15

The Alliance for Socialist Unity Kangleipak (ASUK) has called a total shut down all over the State from 5 am to 6 pm of August 15.A statement issued by ASUK publicity committee S Mangal alleged that joining the Indian Independence Day celebration is akin to committing suicide for the people of Manipur (Kangleipak) .
The entire WESEA including Manipur has been struggling for independence and celebrating Indian Independence Day in the region is meaningless.
The Government of India and its leaders see the people of Manipur as colonised people and this is evident in the way they have been dealing with the Manipur University crisis, it asserted.
AFSPA is one very effective instrument of oppression.
By employing all kinds of repressive measures over the years, the Government of India has dehumanised a large number of Manipuri people, it alleged.
The unity seen among the MU community and the people on their demand and struggle for removal of the Vice Chancellor is something unprecedented.
The oneness shown by MU community and the people is more than enough reason for the Government of India to dismiss the VC.
Perhaps, it is the first time in the history of MU that students, teachers and staff have stood together on any issue.
The movement has been dragging on for such a long period because the Government of India sees it as a battle between an imperial power and colonised people and they are determined not to let the colonised people win the battle, it alleged.
The Government of India has not yet taken up a single concrete step even though 50,000/60,000 students have been facing a grim situation of losing one academic year because they don' t see the people of Manipuras humans.
At the same time, it appears that the Government of India intends to keep education away from the people of Manipur.
One BJP MP said in the Parliament that MU is a home for insurgents.
The MP's statement exposed the Government of India's outlook which sees all the people of Manipur as insurgents or supporters of insurgency Mangal remarked.
The MP's statement and the Government of India's attitude smacked of sheer arrogance.
All the people of Manipur are being subjected to structural and regulatory coercion and this is nothing but administrative colonialism, it alleged.
Suppressed people eventually develop an inferiority complex followed by a tendency to emulate their oppressors/rulers and they start oppressing each other.
Brute force unleashed by police upon agitating students is a case in point, it continued.
While saying nothing to the Government of India, some people were asking the MU students to call off their agitation on the pretext that a fact finding committee has been constituted and their demand has been more or less fulfilled.
But the MU community's demand is an independent enquiry commission, not any enquiry done by the acquaintances of the VC.
What is more strange is the Government of India's announcement to probe the charges levelled against the VC even before any agreement has been reached with the agitating people.
If any enquiry should be done, it should be done only after MU has been re-opened which means there should be an understanding between the agitating groups and the authority, it asserted.
It is BJP which is in power both at the Centre and the State but the State Government has been shirking away from their responsibility by claiming that they can do very little as MU is a Central university.
BJP Manipur is saying the truth.
All the people of Manipur including BJP Manipur are colonised people and Central leaders including Central BJP are colonisers, it alleged.
Yet the Government of India has been coercing the people of Manipur to join the Independence Day celebration to inculcate a false consciousness and' encompass them in a new discourse of India's history.
This will ultimately transform the people of Manipur as Indians, it further alleged.
ASUK informed that religious activities and emergency services would be exempted from the purview of the total shut down.
