Imphal, May 10 2026:
International Mother's Day was observed widely in Imphal on Sunday, highlighting the role of mothers in society and extending support to children.
Hillside Hospital
Hillside Charitable Hospital and Research Center held a programme at its Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai premises on the theme "Strength, love and sacrifice of mothers".
Hospital Medical Superintendent RK Joymati said a mother's contribution is central to raising confident and courageous children.
"If every mother is empowered, society will not go astray, and mothers can reduce discrimination faced by their children", she said.
"Every woman will become a mother one day.
Even if a woman is not a biological mother, she is still a mother to society.
The word 'mother' is vast", she said.
Joymati said a woman dedicates herself to her child from birth until the child becomes self-reliant.
She said that though it is a private facility, the hospital takes responsibility for ensuring safe deliveries for mothers.
"We do not refuse delivery cases for lack of money.
We provide concessions", she said.
On PMJAY, she said the scheme has helped many patients.
"But some genuinely poor families still do not have the card.
For such patients, the hospital gives special concessions", she said.
The programme, she said, also aims to show that the hospital and its doctors treat patients without looking only at money, and to spread awareness of the importance of mothers.
Retired Joint Director, Manipur Health Services, Dr Potsangbam Binata; JNIMS Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dr Thangjam Netajini; and JNIMS Professor of Pathology, Dr RK Banashree attended the event as presidium members.
PALEM
The Progressive Alliance for Leadership & Empowerment of Mothers (PALEM) observed International Mother's Day with a programme at the Destitute Children's Home, Sagolband Tera Keithel.
The event aimed to honour motherhood and support the children at the home.
PALEM members distributed gifts, pens and notebooks to the children.
The children expressed gratitude and performed songs dedicated to mothers.
PALEM president Kumabam Jibanmala said the organisation has been active in social and national welfare since its inception.
"While this was its first Mother's Day aid to the home, PALEM will continue support for those in need", she said.
She spoke on the role of mothers, who endure hardship to raise responsible children.
"The caretakers at the home are like mothers to the children, providing love and protection", she added.
Ayekpam Wanglen Meitei, administrator of the home, thanked PALEM and wished the organisation success.
He hoped the children would grow up to be kind-hearted and successful citizens.
