Forest Dept, RIMS and MSAP Alumni mark Van Mahotsav 2026 with plantation drives

Van Mahotsav 2026 was observed across Imphal on Sunday with multiple tree plantation drives focused on community participation, women's role in conservation, and climate action.
The Central Forest Division, in association with Matai Joint Forest Management Committee, Matai Women Welfare Association, and Naharol Yaipha Lamjing Club, launched the '5th Ningol Van' at Matai.
Inaugurating the programme, Divisional Forest Officer Vikram Suresh Nadhe stressed community involvement and urged people to plant and nurture trees for a greener future.
Range Forest Officer Jobid Meitei said collaboration between the Forest Department and local bodies is key for forest protection.

The event concluded with dignitaries and residents planting saplings.
At RIMS, Imphal, a Tree Plantation Drive was held at the New Type-III and Type-IV Residential Quarters under the nationwide "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign.
A cleanliness drive was also conducted from IMA approach road/SIB Gate to Gate No 2.Chief guest Dr S Krishnananda Sharma, State Advisor to the CM, said Manipur can become one of India's most developed States through patriotic values and aims to be the cleanest, fittest and healthiest in ten years under PMO guidance.
RIMS Director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma reaffirmed the institute's commitment to green cover.
The Association of MSAP ((Manipur Students' Association, Pune) Alumni, Manipur also held the 3rd phase of "Ningol Van" Tree Plantation Drive 1.3 at Royal Academy of Science, Kongba Kshetri Leikai under the theme "Now for Climate".
Held with Leichal Taret Foundation, Pune and the Forest Department, which provided 150 saplings, the drive was graced by CCF L Joykumar Singh and DFO Vikram Suresh Nadhe.
Presided by Prof (Dr) Th Asha Sinha, the programme saw 85 ningols, mainly schoolgirls, plant indigenous saplings.
Each received a QR-coded ID linked to her sapling for monitoring.
Around 120 people participated.
Faculty, students, staff and residents joined all three programmes, reflecting a collective push for a greener Manipur.
