Manipur observes 71st Wildlife Week

The 71st edition of Wild-life Week Celebration, 2025 was observed across the length and breadth of the State with quiz and face painting competitions, interaction session and a nature camp.
BISHNUPUR, MOREH
As part of the 71st Wildlife Week Celebration, 2025, quiz competitions on the theme "Human-Animal Coexistence" were held at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Moreh and Kiyamba Shanglen in Bishnupur district separately.
At Moreh, the competition was conducted under the initiative of the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Tengnoupal Forest Division.
Students from various schools across Tengnoupal district enthusiastically participated in the competition.
Meanwhile, the district level quiz competition at Kiyamba Shanglen was organised by Bishnupur Forest Division.
Five schools from Bishnupur district participated in the quiz competition and altogether 190 students from various schools took part in the programme.
Waikhom Romabai, Divisional Forest Officer, Bishnupur Forest Division; Mutum Nilamani Singh RFO/Bishnupur Range; H Geetchandra Sharma RFO/ Moirang Range; RK Sadananda Singh, Range Forest Officer/HQ along with staff of Bishnupur Forest Division and E Premjit Singh, Wildlife Activist/ Founder Green Brigade Manipur attended the programme.
Both events aimed at creating awareness among students about the importance of peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife and promoting knowledge on biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
CHANDEL
Meanwhile, at Chandel, locals celebrated the 100th World Animal Day alongside the observation of 71 st World Wildlife Week at Ziontlang village.
The event was attended by Dr N Munal Meitei, DFO, Chandel; Th James Chothe, Chief, Ziontlang village; Youthsan Chothe, former Chief and M Rocky, village Pastor.
On the occasion, the Chandel DFO said that the theme of the World Animal Day, "Save Animals, Save the Planets", evokes the unbreakable bond between mankind and wildlife.
He further stressed on the importance of animal rights and added that animals should never be treated as "personal property" .
KANGPOKPI
In observance of the 71 st Wildlife Week Celebration 2025, a quiz and face painting competition was organized today at ADC Hall, Kangpokpi under the theme "Human-Animal Coexistence".
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from school children, teachers, and community members, reflecting their growing awareness and concern for wildlife conservation.
As part of the celebration, all attendees took a pledge to protect wildlife and conserve forests, reaffirming their commitment towards harmonious coexistence with nature.
Addressing the gathering, Amandeep, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Kangpokpi, highlighted the importance of involving youth and local communities in conservation efforts.
He emphasized that protecting wildlife is not just the duty of the Forest Department but a shared responsibility of every citizen.
He urged the students to become ambassadors for nature, spreading awareness about the need to safeguard the rich biodiversity of Manipur for future generations.
Later, a prize distribution ceremony was held, during which winners of the essay, painting, and quiz competitions were felicitated with certificates and tokens of appreciation by the Kangpokpi Forest Division.
UKHRUL
In observation of 71st Wildlife Week, a three-day nature camp organised by the Ukhrul Forest Division kicked off for the first time in the wild woods of Paorei Shirui village, Ukhrul yesterday.
The nature camp will conclude on October 5.Meanwhile, DFO, Ukhrul Gitla Laishram flagged off the 71st Wildlife Week at District Forest conference hall, Ukhrul in the presence of ASP Charmisan, ROs N Vikram, Soraisam Bigyananda, Bijen Irengbam and campers.
At the event, the Ukhrul DFO stated that Ukhrul Forest Division has chosen to celebrate Wildlife Week in the forest of Paorei to create an atmosphere where wild animals and humans can mutually co-exist.
She dwelt on the theme of the 71st Wildlife Week to celebrate "Human Animal Co-existence".
According to her, the three-day programme is designed to equip the youth and public with essential environmental awareness and practical skills.
During the field practice, the campers were trained on "Camera Traps Installation" for non-invasive wildlife monitoring.
This was complemented by "Site Exploration" and "Mapping" .
It was followed by biodiversity assessment and crucial community engagement, reinforcing the idea that conservation requires both field skills and local support.
Campers were even educated on "Site Study" and "Check Listing" activities by identifying and cataloguing local flora and fauna.
A quiz competition and interaction session was also held with local villagers, local clubs and youth members from Greenland Youth Society and Shirui Youth Club, and front-line staff of Ukhrul Forest Division.
Later, Ukhrul DC Ashish Das also visited the camping site.
Encouraging them, he advised the campers to love nature and mentioned the ill-effects of deforestation and climate change.
The DC went on to call for a collective effort to restore ecological balance.
