PHED team, MDC inspect landslide affected villages

A team of PHED, Chandel division including Ts Kanlun, MDC, 13-Vomku DCC visited the affected landslide affected villages in Sulam area on Saturday, reports our correspondent.
After severe landslide on July 31, villagers are till now reeling under water and power crises and deplorable road condition.
Interacting with the team, villagers said that Larong Khullen, Darchol, Challong, Vomku and Thungtam have been suffering from lack of drinking water after the GI pipelines and Dujang Lok were damaged by a landslide.
The electric post was also damaged and since then there has been no power in the entire area.
The team inspected Dujang Lok which is 4-km away from Challong village.
Speaking to media persons, Section Officer, PHED Chandel Division, BD Jameson said that Dujang Lok is the only source of drinking water of the villages.
However, the landslide had extensively damaged the 50mm GI pipelines measuring about 500m including intake and collection chamber.
The site could not be inspected even though the department was informed on time due to heavy rainfall and poor road condition, he said.
Jameson also assured of discussing the matter with the higher officials of the department in order to take up necessary steps.
