16th National Voters ' Day celebrated with pledge to uphold democratic values

Imphal, January 25 2026:
As observed across the country, the 16th National Voters' Day was celebrated today at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office Complex, Imphal West district.
The celebration was organised by the District Election Officer (DEO), Imphal West District under the theme, "My India, My Vote" with a tagline of "Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy".
The event was attended by Mayanglambam Rajkumar, DEO/DC, Imphal West; K Jadumani Singh, Additional DC-II, Imphal West; Bhagyashree Laishram, Additional DC-I, Imphal West; Anushka Kamwal, SDO/ERO, Thangmeiband AC; S Snehprabha, AC to DC-IIIZERO, Keishamthong & Langthabal ACs; and I Ashalata Devi, Assistant Election Supervisor, Imphal West among others.
Presentation of cash prizes and certificates to the winners of the painting competition conducted in connection with the National Voters' Day 2026, and an interaction session with students and newly enrolled voters were the main highlights of the event.
The event also included a Voters' Pledge, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to democratic values and responsible voting.
Speaking at the event, Mayanglambam Rajkumar, DEO/DC, Imphal West, highlighted the importance of voter awareness and participation.
He congratulated students who participated in a painting competition, emphasizing the significance of understanding democracy and elections from a young age.
K Jadumani Singh stressed the need for increased electoral enrollment, despite the district's high literacy rate.
He urged officials and citizens to work together to make the election process successful and strengthen democracy.
The celebration was attended by officials, newly enrolled voters, and students, marking a significant step towards promoting voter awareness and participation in Imphal West district.
GP Women's College
The 16th National Voters' Day was celebrated today at GP Women's College, organised by the Department of Political Science, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal.
The event saw the participation of several key individuals, including Prof K Indramani, Dean, School of Social Science, DM University, and Prof L Rajen, Principal, GP Women's College.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof K Indramani highlighted that India is the largest democracy among the world's democratic nations.
However, he noted that within Manipur, which is part of India, there are still many shortcomings in the field of democracy.
"There are even areas where a citizen can cast his/her vote but is not allowed to contest election", he added.
Prof Indramani also stressed the importance of public awareness regarding the upcoming delimitation exercise which is expected in the next few years.
As part of the event, a written quiz competition was conducted for students from colleges under DM University, and prizes were distributed to the winners.
