Clean Senapati River Campaign: 40 tonnes of garbage disposed

Under the initiative of District Administration of Senapati, a joint cleanliness drive titled 'Clean Senapati River Campaign' was held today along an 8 km stretch at Senapati River from Mt Everest College parking to Kathikho Karong under the theme 'Keep it clean, keep it flowing' .
Senapati Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley, IAS, led the Campaign accompanied by Rang David Kung, MCS, ADM/ADC, Senapati and Adahrii Maheo, MCS, ADC/CEO, Senapati.
The cleanliness drive covered the densely populated eight kilometre stretch along the Senapati HQ area.
The river stretch was divided into five zones and headed by S Lunguiba Thangal, MCS, SDO, Purul, Sheveine, MCS, SDO, Tadubi, Reikimdaar Khaling, MCS, SDO, Paomata & Willong, Panii James, MCS, SDO, Phaibung Chillivai and Ningreingam Leisan, MCS, ADM, Mao who were entrusted to supervise their respective zones/area.
Each zone witnessed Government departments, CSOs, student bodies as well as school and college students getting involved in the collection and cleaning of garbage dumped in the river.
Later, the river water was treated with bleaching powder as disinfectant.
Altogether, around 2000 people participated in today's Clean Senapati River Campaign.
Around 40 tonnes of garbage (mixed wastes) was collected during the cleanliness drive.
The collected wastes were disposed of at designated places by Karong Senapati Town Committee.
The cleanliness drive will continue till March 25.Ahead of the campaign, toilets, pigsties and other structures disposing waste directly into the river were identified during the physical survey led by ADM Senapati, CEO/ADC Senapati, KSTC and SDSA earlier in the month of February, 2025.Black spots where large amounts of garbage have accumulated in the river were also identified along the stretch.
Strict warnings against such rampant disposal of wastes into the river were issued during the physical survey.
