Village chiefs to CEO : Carry out verification of voter lists

Imphal, January 18 2017: Village chiefs under Saitu Assembly Constituency has requested the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur to make proper enquiry and verification of the of the final Photo Electoral Roll in respect of Saitu AC.

Villages chief of villages under Saitu AC submitted a written appeal to the Senapati DC on December 12, 2016, seeking inclusion of left out eligible voters in the final electoral roll, Manamjang village chief Letthang Kipgen, said in a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today.

As such, the Booth Level Officers (BLO) submitted a list of the number of voters in their respective polling stations to the department concerned.

However, when the final photo Electoral Roll was published on January 12, 2017, the number of additional voters exceeded that of the number of eligible voters as submitted by the BLOs.

For example, the net electors in the final Electoral Roll after Special Summary Revision in respect of Motbung (B) polling station is 913 against the total 739 eligible voters submitted by the concerned BLO; 831 against 711 in respect of Motbung (C); 667 against 577 in respect of Bethel, Kharam Vaiphei and Kharam Thadou; 1244 against 959 in respect of New Keithelmanbi; 719 against 534 for Kotlen Maring Tongba and Veitum Khullen; 794 against 661 for Tingkai Khullen and Tingkai Khunou; 852 against 683 for Sadu Chiru and Loibol Khunou and 472 against 364 for Motjang L Khomunom.

Saitu AC has altogether 63 polling stations.

The total number of eligible voters as submitted by the BLOs are 37,952 while the total number of electors in the final Electoral Roll in respect of the AC is 4,500, the village chief said while inquiring where the additional voters came from. The village chiefs have also demanded the deletion of Polling Station 51/62 Loibol Khunou UJB School stating that no school under the above said name has been established under Sadar Hills ADC and Zonal Education Officer, Kangpokpi.

Polling Station 51/62 Loibol Khunou UJB School was listed in Special Summary Rivision 2017.They also alleged various irregularities by concerned ERO like inclusion of voters who have shifted to another constituency.

The village chiefs further alleged that fake voters as well as minors have included in the final Electoral Rolls, without proper verification.

A letter has been sent to the Chief Electoral Officer in this regard yesterday.

The CEO is yet to reply, Letthang Kipgen stated.

The village chief have further appealed to the concerned department to make a proper enquiry into the matter and remove the additional voters from the electoral roll.

It further threatened to ban election in the AC if the electoral roll is not corrected.
