JSCC, CSOs to back MUSU strike

Imphal, July 17 2018: The Joint Students' Co-ordination Committee (JSCC) comprising of SUK, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), KSA, DESAM, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), MPP, Singjamei to Lilong United Clubs Organisation (SLUCO), Singjamei to Lilong MeiraPaibi Apunba Lup (SLIMPAL), Local Surrounding People of Manipur University, Canchipur, IPSA, CCSK, ACOAM-Lup, Pangal Students' Organisation Manipur, All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation, All Manipur Nupi Marup, and AISF Manipur State Council have pledged unstinted support to the 48 hours general strike called by MUSU.

Speaking to media persons at their Mapal Kangjeibung office this afternoon, MPP president Oinam Jugindro asked if the Central Government and the State Government have any hidden agenda for stubbornly shielding Vice Chancellor Prof AP Pandey in spite of the vehement demand for his dismissal.

Prof Pandey has been working to spoil the career of thousands of students and he is a challenge to all the people of Manipur, Jugindro alleged.

Even though MU is a Central University and the Central Government is responsible for its administration the campus is here.

As such, the State Government needs to take up certain steps in the interest of students, he said.

He said that MPP condemns the way the State Government has been unleashing brute force upon agitating students rather than discharging its duties.

Assaulting students is a common characteristic of all National parties whether it is BJP or Congress, said the MPP president.

Saying that MPP would not remain silent if the Manipur University crisis is allowed to linger any further, Jugindro demanded resolution of the crisis at the earliest.

Meanwhile, SLUCO, SLIMPAL and Local Surrounding People of Manipur University, Canchipur have pledged full support to the 48 hours general strike.

A joint press statement issued by the three bodies decried that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been condoning the scandalous VC Prof Pandey even though they had dismissed Governors of many States.

The NDA Government's promise for 'Acche Din' has turned out to be dark days for the students of Manipur.

It condemned the way grievous injuries were inflicted upon DESAM secretary general O Shital during a protest agitation by DESAM volunteers yesterday.

The Women Association for Socio-Economic Development (WASED) too has assured that they would support the general strike.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, WASED president RK Tharaksana said mat the Government should resolve the MU crisis by July 20 else WASED would launch different modes of agitation.

The Indo-Burma Auto Drivers' Union too have pledged support to the 48 hours general strike which comes into effect from this midnight.
