Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur on MU impasse
Source: Thadou Students' Association *
Imphal, July 17 2018:
The recent public invitation letter by the Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD) using the word "Mayang" Vice-Chancellor (VC) to refer to the current VC Prof AP Pandey is a clear indication that the present VC is judged based on his race, ethnicity or origin.
This indicates that the achievements which the VC has brought into the university are not at all acknowledged by the agitating students and it is truly sad that they do not accept the VC due to his origin or ethnicity.
It is shameful to learn that MASAD who claim to be a Pan Manipur student body in Delhi was without the involvement of any tribal group from Manipur.
It is worth mentioning that the Hon'ble Governor, Chief Secretary and Advisor to the Hon'ble Chief Minister are also 'Mayang'.
Should they all be removed as well? If the VC is not targeted because of him being non-native to Manipur despite being an Indian citizen, MUSU, MUTA and MUSA have to allow the inquiry committee to commence and complete the process of fact finding.
Then only should he be removed if he is found guilty of wrongdoings that befit his removal.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development has promptly done their best to resolve the issue by taking it as a grave concern.
A fact finding committee has been constituted for investigation into the alleged financial and administrative dereliction after the assumption of the office of the VC by Prof AP Pandey.
The fact finding committee needs to be cooperated with to enable it to do its job conclusively in a fair, just and efficient manner instead of rejecting it.
The demand for forced resignation, forced leave, forced dismissal and random demand for removal of the VC based on allegations that are yet to be duly investigated is totally unfair and also against natural justice and rule of law.
The right to liberty and demand for removal of a VC should not disrupt the functioning of the university and students' careers.
Prolonged total shut-down in the university campus is denial of the right to education and learning.
It is very unfortunate that the state government, which is solely responsible for law and order of the state, remains a mere spectator in spite of total shut-down inside the university campus since 30 May.
Damage has been already done and it can't be controlled any more due to inaction of the state government.
It has now reached to the point where the state government and the agitators looking for the heights of their ego.
The negligence by the Hon'ble Chief Minister in dealing with the state's law and order has led to a rampant turmoil in the state.
The Fact Finding Committee should have been welcomed and appreciated, but it was shocking that MUSU/MUTA are directly against the fact-finding committee.
It is clearly evident that the agitators do not want peaceful solution to the impasse.
Therefore, the Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur would like to reiterate that the career of the students at stake cannot be compromised.
For that, the Government of Manipur should provide adequate security in and around the varsity for immediate declarations of results for all VI Semester students studying their bachelor degree within the next few days.
If there is no positive development within the next few days, the joint student bodies will not remain silent but resume the agitation which was relaxed temporarily recently.
