2nd round of National Deworming Day 2025 launched at Chandel, Senapati, Thoubal

Chandel/Senapati/Thoubal, October 14 2025:
The 2nd round of National Deworming Day (NDD) 2025 was launched in different districts of the State accompanied by the administering of deworming tablets to eligible students in the 1-19 age group.
The programme was launched under the theme "Eliminate STH (Soil-Transmitted Helminths): Invest in a healthier future for children" .
CHANDEL
The Chandel District Health Society launched the second round of NDD 2025 at Khungpham Primary School, Mantripantha Village on Tuesday.
Chief Executive Officer, ADC Chandel, Md Firoz Khan graced the occasion as the chief guest while Hrangbung Starson Anal, ZEO Chandel, and Ahanthem Neemi, Programme Officer, ICDS Cell Chandel, attended as guests of honour and Dr Joyson Matthew Monsang, CMO Chandel presided over the function.
In her keynote address, Dr Hrangbung Sally, District Nodal Officer for Child Health, highlighted the campaign's objective and the crucial role teachers and Anganwadi workers play in its success.
She emphasized that over 25,000 children aged 1-19 years will receive deworming tablets through Anganwadi centres, schools, and institutions.
A mop-up round will be conducted to cover children missed during this round.
Dr Sally explained the harmful effects of parasitic worms on health, the importance of hygiene and available treatments.
She stressed on improving sanitation, practising good hygiene, and consuming safe food and water.
Meanwhile, CMO Dr Joyson Matthew Monsang stated that the campaign is an investment in health and education, aiming to raise awareness about worm infestation and prevention.
He emphasized that by protecting children from worm infections, the district is investing in its future.
"This campaign is not just about health; it's about empowering our children to become productive citizens and shaping the future of our district," he added.
He appreciated the collaboration between departments and stakeholders, ensuring the campaign's success.
Concluding the programme, the presidium members, teachers, and staff from ICDS and Health Department Chandel administered Albendazole tablets to eligible students.
The programme was attended by District Programme Manager Jasha Premi, Chief of Mantri Pantha, teachers, health staff, and officials from ZEO Chandel.
SENAPATI
As chief guest, Mamoni Doley IAS Deputy Commissioner/Chairman DHS Senapati launched the NDD 2nd round for the district at Taphou Phyamai Primary School, Senapati on Tuesday.
The programme was organized by District Health Society Senapati.
In her address, the DC said that a small tablet can make a big difference for children's health.
Children with worms in their stomach will affect their growth and concentration in studies.
She appealed to the Village Authority, Medical Department, teachers, parents, ICDS and concerned departments to give their best effort so that no child in the district is affected.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Dr Sumpi Percy Director/CMO DHS Senapati she advised children to drink boiled water, wash hands properly, keep the environment clean, stop open defecation and cover food items to prevent worm infection.
Meanwhile, RK Elizabeth DPM (NHM) Senapati informed that the National Deworming Day is usually conducted twice a year after every 6 months in the month of February and October.
As a part of the programme, the Senapati DC administered deworming tablets to the students while the medical team demonstrated the correct way of hand washing to the students and participants.
The programme was attended by students, teachers, parents, village leaders etc .
THOUBAL
In Thoubal district, the NDD 2025 2nd round was launched at Evergreen Flowers' (EGF) School, Thoubal Ningombam.
The programme was organised by the District Health Society Thoubal and saw the attendance of Y Achouba Singh, Zonal Education Officer, Zone III Thoubal as the chief guest; Dr Y Nokul, Chief Medical Officer Thoubal and District Mission Director, District Health Society Thoubal as the functional president and Dr W Ruhinikumar, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Thoubal; Th Romita Devi, District Programme Officer, ICDS Cell Thoubal; Dr O Ibomcha, Secretary, EGF Governing Body and Thongam Chandra, Headmaster, EGF School as the guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Ch Basanta, District Programme Manager, District Health Society Thoubal said that the 1st round of NDD 2025 was held in the month of February.
In the 2nd round of NDD launched today, the goal is to give Albendazole tablets to roughly 80,000 students/children between 1-19 years of age in Thoubal district across Government and private schools and Anganwadi centres.
In case some students are missed, they can obtain the deworming tablets from the nearest health or Anganwadi centre, he added.
Meanwhile, chief guest Y Achouba said that the Health and Medical Department should conduct awareness programmes highlighting the benefits of Albendazole tablets in schools and beyond.
He also advised people to stay clear of junk food and maintain cleanliness.
In this connection, Health Department staff demonstrated the proper way of washing hands to the students.
