Three-day fish farming training boost skills of SC/ST farmers in Manipur

Imphal, February 11 2026:
Two parallel three-day fish farming training programmes organised across Manipur concluded on Wednesday, benefiting Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe fish farmers from various districts.
The programme was conducted by NFDB-NERC in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Manipur, KVK Ukhrul, KVK Churachandpur, and ICAR-RC Manipur.
At ICAR-RC Manipur, the training on "Quality Fish Seed: The Foundation of Successful Aquaculture" was attended by 25 scheduled caste fish farmers from the valley districts.
Simultaneously, at Churachandpur, 25 scheduled tribe fish farmers participated in a training on "Sustainable Fish Farming Practices" .
The sessions covered farmers' insurance registration and field demonstrations on integrated farming and scientific fish farm management emphasizing the critical role of quality seed in improving aquaculture productivity and production.
Participants also received field-based exposure to integrated farming systems, along with technical guidance on sustainable aquaculture and scientific management from experts of NFDB, the District Fishery Office, and the participating Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) .
The twin programmes were designed to build farmers' technical capacity, encourage adoption of scientific and sustainable aquaculture practices, and improve income opportunities through enhanced fish production in Manipur.
The valedictory session was attended by T Phulen Singh, Director of Fisheries, Manipur; Surchandra Singh; GB member of NFDB; and Dr Soibam Khogen Singh, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ukhrul, among others, who urged farmers to adopt quality seed and improved management practices.
Farm inputs were also distributed to all trainees.
