World Mental Day observed across State

Centre for Mental Hygiene and Flamingo Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre jointly observed World Mental Day at the office of Centre for Mental Hygiene, Changangei Uchekon today.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker MK Preshow Shimray, Social Welfare Deputy Director Th Joychandra and Assistant Professor of Psychiatric Department (RIMS), Dr S Gojendra attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Apart from releasing a mental health awareness first aid information pamphlet, the first tele-counselling helpline number on mental illness in Manipur was launched at the function, said a statement.
Different speakers spoke on this year's theme of World Mental Health Day, 'Dignity in Mental Health' .
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Gojendra spoke on how mental illness can be treated as any other illness.
With the advancement of medical science, there has been various progress in the prevention and treatment of mental illness.
With the right guidance and professional help mental illness can be controlled, he said.
He also spoke on the lack of mental health professionals in the State.
MK Preshow Shimray and Th Joychandra Singh appreciated the efforts made by Existence and Flamingo Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre in the rehabilitation and treatment of persons with mental illness.
Centre for Mental Hygiene Secretary Ch Pishakmacha said that the number of people suffering from mental illness is on the rise in Manipur comparing to other States because of being a conflict ridden State.
She stressed on the need to address the situation rather than hiding the illness.
MK Preshow Shimray and Ch Leibaklotpi Devi donated Rs 10,000 each to welfare fund of mental health.
The Manipur State Mental Health Authority also observed the World Mental Health Day at Primary Health Centre, Kakwa today.
Psychiatrist of Thoubal District Hospital, Dr Kh Robindro, member secretary of Manipur State Mental Health Authority Dr Mary Haobam and president of All Manipur Nupi Marup M Sakhi attended the programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
At the same time, the Manipur State Legal Services Authority observed the World Mental Health Day at Centre for Mental Hygiene, Changangei Uchekon, Airport Road.
Students and staff of the Centre attended the programme.
A Noutuneshwari Devi, CJM Imphal East cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East; Ch Pishakmacha Devi, Secretary, Mental Hygiene and Keisham Dhane Singh, Legal Aid Counsel, Imphal East were present as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
