Imphal, January 07 2018: Taking due note of the possibility of infiltration on non-local people into the State in the wake of publication of a draft copy of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam and identification of foreigners, adequate security measures have been put in place at border areas, stated Chief Minister N Biren.

He was speaking at a felicitation function organised by BJP Heingang Mandal in his honour at Luwangpokpa Cricket Ground, Luwangsangbam today.

He claimed that security measures have been stepped up at all border areas since the day he took over as the State's Chief Minister.

Sometime back, a chaotic situation prevailed in Jiribam and the Government did not know who were the people settled there.

But special police teams have been deployed there and they are carrying out the work of identifying nonlocal people, Biren said.

Only paramilitary forces who have little knowledge of the State's history were guarding the State's border at Moreh but these days, the task of guarding the border is largely handled by State police.

Police teams have been deployed at porous Behiang area and similar security measures have been placed at Mao and other places, the Chief Minister stated.

Stating that he is gratified to meet the people of Heingang AC, Biren asserted that he could not find time to meet the people of Heingang earlier as he was entrusted a huge responsibility by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Central leaders just five months after joining BJP.

With a long term vision, Prime Minister Modi made a psychological challenge when he declared that BJP would accomplish in 15 months what the Congress Government could not in 15 years.

"It is this challenge which made me untiring and kept me away from the people of Heingang AC", Biren said.

Not long after the BJP-led Government assumed office, it got the prolonged economic blockade lifted and all the people who were killed in the Churachandpur turmoil were finally put to rest after a gap of over 600 days.

Saying that he was accorded warm receptions every time he visited hill areas, Biren pledged that many social security schemes would be launched in addition to the ones already launched.

Some people have been questioning whether the Government has money for the development projects announced for hill districts.

Notwithstanding such derisory questions, the Government takes up all development projects it announced, Biren asserted.

Market sheds being constructed in hill districts would be completed one after another within the current month and 10 ambulances would be sent to hill districts on the Statehood Day.

People would have noticed the changes in Imphal-Jiribam highway and Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Biren said adding "Let actions speak for themselves" .

Claiming that his politics is based on humanism, Biren pledged that he would continue to work for the welfare of mankind.

"I would never let down the trust of the people of Manipur including the people of Heingang AC and BJP leaders", Biren swore.

BJP Heingang Mandal president Kh Jilla, Imphal East Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha P Bimola and many BJP leaders were also seated on the dais.
