Imphal, December 03 2025:
In a State still healing from nearly three years of ethnic conflict, the hill village of Mapao Zingtun is preparing to send a powerful message of hope and unity.
According to a release issued by Sorshia Christian College (SCC), on December 4, the Needy Home Academy, Sorshia Christian College and Mapao Zingtun village will jointly organise the Manipur Peace initiative Programme at the Needy Home Academy campus.
The event aims to demonstrate how Meitei and Kuki communities can still live, learn and hope together despite the prevailing tensions.
Located about 25 km north of Imphal, Mapao Zingtun has quietly emerged as one of the few places in the State where Meitei and Kuki children continue to study and live side by side, even after the violence that erupted in May 2023, stated the SCC .
While much of Manipur remains divided into monoethnic zones, the classrooms and hostels in Mapao Zingtun have stayed mixed, offering a rare and inspiring example that peaceful coexistence remains achievable.
The initiative seeks to open this local model of harmony to a wider audience.
Speaking about the event, Dr R Chance, principal of Sorshia Christian College and cofounder of Needy Home Academy, noted that Mapao Zingtun's story belongs to every citizen of Manipur.
"If children can learn and live together in conflict districts, surely adults across Manipur can also find ways to live together again." he said.
Dr Atom Sunil Singh.
Director of Sorshia Christian College, described the event as "a small but determined contribution to Manipur's long journey from camps to communities".
He stressed that the real goal must be "genuine coexistence, not permanent separation," adding that Mapao Zingtun stands as living proof of this vision.
The Manipur Peace Initiative Programme will officially open to the public on December 4, inviting community leaders, institutions, policymakers, media organisations and student bodies to witness firsthand what shared living between Meitei and Kuki children looks like - playing, learning and praying together under the same roof.
