Noney, March 31 2026:
The Khunbu/Khullak/Riamei Kaikhwang of Goitang Village under Khoupum sub-division in Noney district has strongly objected to a proposed meeting or declaration scheduled for March 30, terming it unauthorized and unrecognized.
In a press release, the village authority stated that the proposed programme came to light through a leaked notice dated March 25, allegedly signed by Gainipou Riamei, Khullakpa and Ex-Officio Chairman of Goitang Village.
The statement asserted that the meeting was neither officially sanctioned nor recognized by the Khunbu/Khullak/Riamei Kaikhwang of Goitang Village.
Advisor to the Khunbu/Khullak/Riamei Kaikhwang, Donthaolung Riamei, reportedly clarified the matter during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, stating that the leaked meeting or declaration was unofficial and unauthorized.
The release further stated that the village authority had formally written on March 28 to the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and the Officer-in-Charge of Khoupum Police Station, requesting them to prevent the proposed meeting scheduled for March 30 .
Despite the objections and official communication, the statement alleged that Gainipou Riamei, Khullakpa/Ex-Officio chairman of Goitang attempted to convene the meeting with what was described as a "hidden agenda" .
It further alleged that two miscreants accompanied by Gainipou opened fire, injuring a woman identified as Premilla Kamei Riameipui, of Goitang Village.
She reportedly sustained a gunshot injury on her right shin between the calf and ankle.
It was further alleged that the person who fired the shot was identified as Neilasin, son of Gabriel Kamei of Longleinand, and that the act was carried out under the direction of one Arei Thoitak, son of Thoitak Shong Chiru of Bungte Chiru in Kangpokpi district.
The village authority condemned the incident and called on the concerned authorities to take necessary action to ensure peace and prevent further escalation of tension in the area.
