Tributes paid to fallen heroes of Anglo Manipuri War

Descendants of Anglo Manipur War 1891 in collaboration with Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak organised a memorial ceremony at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen, Bishnupur today to pay homage to the fallen heroes of Manipur who laid down their lives in the battle of Laimaton, Leimatak and Lamangdong during the Anglo Manipuri War of 1891 .
It was attended by ADC Bishnupur T Opendro, All Manipur Kanba Ima lup (AMKIL) president Lourembam Nganbi, Leitam Mukta Memorial Committee president Prof Leitam Nabachandra, Ningthemcha Ningsing Lup, advisor Kh Saratkumar, Longjamba Poila (Bira) Memorial Trust, president L Ronendro and Justice Committee, chairman Joychandra Konthoujam as presidium members.
As part of the event, floral tributes were paid to the brave heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland and observed a one-minute silence to pray for their souls to rest in peace in heavenly abode.
The family members of the martyrs were also honoured and presented with special gifts during the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Justice Committee chairman, Joykumar Konthoujam said that it is shameful in front of the whole world that there is no proper memorial site to offer tribute to the valiant heroes who laid down their lives fighting for the motherland against the British.
There is a need to set up a proper memorial site at the earliest in recognition of their courage and sacrifice, said Joykumar.
He stated that the generation of today must follow foe path of "our forefathers to protect and preserve the territory and culture of Manipur" .
