Free mega legal services and medical camps held

Kakching/Thoubal/Tengnoupal, March 22 2025:
Supreme Court Judge, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai who is also the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) today virtually inaugurated free mega legal services camps and medical camps for IDPs across many districts ofthe State from the Multipurpose Hall, Mini Secretariat, Churachandpur.
At Kakching, the camps were held at the Indoor Stadium and Khomdonbi Memorial English School, Kakching Khunou.
Around 700 people availed the facilities at the camps which were jointly organised by the Legal Services Authority, Thoubal and the District Administration Kakching, sponsored by the Manipur Legal Services Authority under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The programme was graced by Rohit Anand (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Kakching district; Dr Thaodem Rajen Singh, Chief Medical Officer Kakching; Ksh Maheta Devi, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Thoubal; Neera Sinam, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kakching; N Modhu Singh, president, Kakching District Bar Association; Kherdananda Potsangbam, SDO Kakching and Takhellambam Millikan Singh, SDO Waikhong.
As a part of the event, essential relief materials were distributed to the IDPs.
Additionally, different essential medicines were distributed.
On the other hand, a Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign was organised by District Election Office, Kakching at the two locations where facilities were made available for the addition of new voters, as well as for the deletion or correction of existing entries in the electoral roll.
As part of the campaign, free T-shirts and caps were distributed.
Meanwhile, at Tengnoupal, the legal services camp was held at Tengnoupal High School under Tengnoupal District Headquarters while the medical camps were held at Tengnoupal High School, Yatri Niwas Moreh and Kwatha.
As many as 150 IDPs from various relief camps in Tengnoupal HQ, Chehlep, Chahmol, Loissi and Phalbung attended the mega legal services camp and free medical camps.
Altogether 16 stalls were set at the venue by various departments to provide assistance.
The Forest Department distributed saplings, the Agriculture Department distributed vegetable seeds while the Health Department distributed medicines free of cost.
Social Welfare Department provided facilities to apply for old age/widow pension and financial assistance.
Today's event was graced by Krishna Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Tengnoupal, Rahul Gupta, SP Tengnoupal, CJM, ADC, DFO, SDO Tengnoupal, CMO Tengnoupal among others.
The event was jointly organized by DLSA, Chandel, District Administration, Tengnoupal and Chief Medical Officer, Tengnoupal under the joint aegis of National Legal Services Authority & Manipur State Legal Services Authority.
Similarly, a legal service camp and medical camp was also held in Thoubal district at the Rice Research Station Relief Camp, Khangabok organised by District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Thoubal in collaboration with District Administration Thoubal.
Notable dignitaries who attended the event include Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal Ahanthem Subhash Singh, IAS as the chief guest, Thoubal SP Shivanand Surve, IPS and Chief Medical Officer Thoubal Dr Yengkhom Nokul Singh as the guests of honour and Samom Ibjen, District Session Judge, Thoubal and Chairman, DLSA, Thoubal as the functional president.
At the event, Advocate Md Zakir Hussain spoke on "Fundamental Duties and Fundamental Rights under the Constitution of India" while Advocate Kh Lembisana Meidingu addressed the topic "Women's Rights and Legal Services".
The medical team provided free medicines and medical check-ups to the IDPs.
The camp also witnessed stalls set up by departments under District Administration Thoubal including DLSA Thoubal and Legal Aid Defence Counsel.
Products made by inmates from relief camps were also available for purchase.
It is worth noting that the legal services camps were conducted to connect IDPs with the Government welfare programs, ensuring access to vital benefits such as healthcare, pensions, employment schemes and identity document reconstruction.
The medical camps provided facilities related to medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynae, sports medicine, paediatrics, respiratory medicine, CTVS, forensic medicine and pathology.
