Imphal, July 17 2010:
The five day long 3rd State Level Pineapple Fair 2010 concluded today at Thambalnu Market, Yairipok.
The fair was organized by Development Organisation Andro Kendra (DOAK).
The concluding function was presided by M Lakshmikumar, DC of Imphal East and Kh Ratankumar, Mission Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation as chief guest and president respectively.
Th Babita, wife of MLA Th Shyamkumar and Md Fakaruddin, President of DOAK were the guests of honour.
Speaking as chief guest, M Lakshmikumar said that the taste of pineapples grown in Andro is completely different from those of other states.
The pineapple products of the state will be exported in international market.
The government will make effort to recognize the pineapple fair.
In his presidential speech, Kh Ratankumar said the government will consult with DC of Imphal East to recognize the fair.
A committee will be formed with the DC as the chairman.
He requested the pineapple farmers to form their own association.
The Horticulture Department will distribute germinated pineapples to the farmers.
The Department will also hand over Rs 2 lakhs to the organizer of the fair for its successful completion.
The president of DOAK, Md Fakaruddin released a souvenir in connection with the fair.
In the fair, stall no.72 belonging to Hijam Rojen was judged as the best stall.
The second place went to stall no.115 of Loitongbam Tharongou.
While the third place was shared by stall no.67 of Koijam Gopen and stall no.45 belonging to Loitongbam Tunan.
The awards will be distributed in an another function presided by MLA Th Shyamkumar.
