Awareness programme on cancer cum free health check up camp organised

A one-day awareness programme on cancer accompanied by a free health check up was conducted today at the campus of Romio School in Heirok Part-I under Thoubal district today.
The programme was jointly organised by Ningol Club, Palem Panthou VLF, Duhu Laikol VLF, Heirok Part-I in collaboration with Humanity Service Foundation and Karkinos Manipur Cancer Care Institute and Research Centre, Imphal with the support of EcoNetwork Manipur, as per a press release.
A total 150 individuals, including the elderly, received free consultations and medicines at today's camp.
Speaking at the event, Dr W Imo Singh, Head of Screening and Early Detection, Karkinos Manipur Cancer Care Institute and Research Centre, advised people not to be fearful of cancer, stating that timely diagnosis can save a patient's life.
If diagnosed during the "0,1 or 2" stage, the patient can be treated easily.
However, treatment becomes complicated beyond these stages.
Cancer is a "silent killer" as noticeable symptoms do not appear during the early treatable stages.
A majority of the disease is diagnosed in the 3rd and 4th stage, he said.
Today's awareness programme has been organised to educate the public on how to detect the signs and symptoms of cancer in the early stages.
For this, he advised people to inculcate the habit of getting timely and regular health check ups.
