Many condemn bandh stand

Imphal, January 07 2018: Senjam Khunouand Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisations as well as various other associations and Gram Panchayats have strongly condemned the decision of the KSO-SH to impose a 36 hour bandh along Imphal-Dimapur road(NH-2) .

They further warned tha tKSO-SH will have to bear responsibilities for any unwanted incidents which may occur due to the bandh.

This was before KSO SH announced the suspension of the total shutdown call.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, joint secretary of Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisations, Kh Alexander, stated that after the unfortunate incident of December 16 last year, among the people of Senjam Chirang and Haraothel village related to the construction of pig pens/farms along the bank of Shahirok river, a joint meeting chaired by DC Imphal West and DC Kangpokpi, was held on January 3 at DC complex (Lamphel) .

Imphal West SP, representatives of Senjam Chirang and Haraothel village including its village chief were also present as well.

Claiming that during the meeting, the president of KSO Sadar Hills had assured to call off the bandh.

Alexander condemned KSO's decision not to revoke the proposed bandh along Imphal-Dimapur road.

He conveyed that the act is akin to dishonouring the meeting chaired by two DCs, State representatives as well as village representatives.

He further alleged that the act also shows the double standard of KSO Sadar Hills as its president had earlier announced that they would try and work for an amicable solution till January 8 before resorting to the bandh.

Demanding KSO to call off its proposed bandh immediately, Alexander clarified that the matter is not related in anyway with the National Sports University and asked KSO to refrain from dragging the issue of the University into the matter constantly.

He further said that it would be right.for KSO to prevent the villagers of Haraothel from setting up pig pens along the bank of Shahirok river.

If the Chief of Haraothel village and the elders had listened to the appeals of Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou villagers, the unfortunate incident of December 16 could have been avoided, he claimed.
