Workshop on 'Empowering women in leadership for equitable decision-making' held

A 1-day capacity building workshop on "Empowering Women in Leadership for Equitable Decision Making" was successfully conducted on April 28, 2025, at Longa Koireng Village Community Hall.
The workshop was organised by Koireng Youth Organisation Manipur (KYOM) and sponsored by the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW).
The event was graced by dignitaries, including MSCW Chairperson, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang; MSCW Members, T Chuongsin Koireng and Sk Sophia Moyon; R Ngirsoreng Boypu Koireng, president KYOM and SR Choungam Koireng, chief Longa Koireng Village.
Speaking on the occasion, R Ngirsoreng Boypu Koireng emphasised the importance of empowering women in all aspects of life.
He highlighted that the roles of women are crucial in every household, as they help to create a positive and nurturing environment.
Pointing out that MSCW is dedicated to safeguarding women's rights, T Chuongsin Koireng said, "Many women have often prioritised their families over themselves, but this programme encourages them to recognise the importance and prioritise their own needs.
It is time to make the right decisions for ourselves".
Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang said, "Women contribute 50% to society.
However, their participation in decision-making processes is very limited" .
She also emphasised that women must be involved in decision-making to help the society progress towards development.
During the technical session, Kh Jacky Lucy, Advocate, discussed women's legal rights, including gender equality, free legal aid service under Article 39A of the constitution, the Domestic Violence Act, and issues related to rape cases.
Damgam Khaling, Member Secretary, Child Welfare Committee, Tengnoupal district discusses the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
She also encouraged the participants to reach out for help in emergencies by using the Child Helpline number 1098, the Women Helpline number 181, and the Police Helpline number 112 .
Nepolian Shaiza, District Resource Person, PM-FME, discussed various Government schemes and how to access them effectively.
Adahrii Mao, Manager, SBI Babupara Branch, emphasised the importance of financial literacy and outlined the schemes & provisions available for women in banking services.
About 100 women from Longa Koireng and surrounding villages attended the workshop.
