Imphal, July 25 2025:
The Manipur Hills and Valley Relief & Disaster Management Monitoring Committee has appealed to the concerned authorities of the State to conduct a re-survey of the damages and loss caused by the recent devastating flood at Khoupum Valley in Noney district.
In a press release, the Committee asserted that the damage assessment team did not undertake an extensive and comprehensive survey.
It alleged that the damage assessment report did not cover some major components such as silt deposit on agricultural land and loss of substantial portion of arable land (approximately 505 hectares) both upstream and downstream, damage caused by change of course of river, damage to 6 minor irrigation dams and irrigation canals and 6 bridges, loss of livestock, loss of standing horticultural crops, damage to forest products especially at Namkaolong and Goitang villages located at the Northern side of Khoupum dam, submerging of 12 fishery ponds, drowning of 2 buffaloes at Taosang village, partial and complete damage to 7 villages water supply scheme, 21 electric post and 15 houses.
The Committee has thus appealed to all the concerned departments- Minor Irrigation, Horticulture, PWD, Fisheries, Forest, Veterinary and Agriculture to depute a survey team so as to assess the extent of damage caused by the recent flood and prepare a detailed and comprehensive Damage Assessment Report so that all the unfortunate victims are compensated on time.
Notably, the total damage is approximated at around Rs 35 crores based on the preliminary estimates, according to the Committee.
