Imphal, April 22 2025:
As observed across the globe, Manipur marked World Earth Day 2025 with multiple environment-focused events across various districts of Manipur today.
CHANDEL
In Chandel, as part of the observance of World Earth Day, DFO Chandel organised a tree plantation drive cum awareness programme at Japhou Upper Primary School, Chandel.
The event attended by around 300 students of the school was graced by Divisional Forest Officer, Dr N Munal Meitei as chief guest, and Japhou Upper Primary School principal, Nicodim Monshang as the president.
During the event, Dr N Munal urged the students and the people at the gathering for collective action to address the environmental challenges.
St Joseph's High School, Chandel also observed the Earth Day on Tuesday at the school's premises with students and staff of the school pledging to protect the earth and carrying out a bottle plantation.
As part of the celebration, students and staff of the school pledged on the 'Earth Anthem' by Abhay Kumar to stand united as flora and fauna, as species of one earth.
"Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl, The most beautiful planet in the universe, All the people and the nations of the world, All for one and one for all, United we unfurl the blue marble flag, Black, brown, white, different colours We are humans, the earth is our home," the school pledged.
The school also observed Earth Day by way of bottle planting with a belief that this initiative will help the planet earth.
A one-day observation focusing on World Earth Day, under the theme 'Our Power, Our Planet,' was also held today at United College, Lambung, Chandel.
During the program, the speaker, Prof RK Hemanta Singh emphasized the small yet significant contributions individuals can make towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
He further discussed the importance of sustainable use of resources, reducing plastic consumption and opting for eco-friendly products.
The program was chaired by the College Principal, Dr Solomon Nungchim Moyon and saw active participation from faculty, students and non-teaching staff members.
THOUBAL
World Earth Day was also observed today at YK College Wanjing Seminal Hall organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Geography Department NSS Unit I-II and the Observation Committee of the College.
The event held under the theme "Our Power - Our Planet" was attended by YK College Principal, Prof Kh Jugindro, YK College Physics Dept Head Associate Prof O Binoykumar and Zoology Dept Head Associate Professor M Chiname Devi as presidium members.
As part of Ihe event Department of Environment Science Head, Dr N Sovarani spoke on the topic "Renewable Energy For Better Future" and Principal, Prof Kh Jugindro on the topic "Save Our Earth.
EcoNetwork Manipur in collaboration with Star Coaching Centre also observed World Earth Day today at Star Coaching Centre located at Heirok Part III.
During the event, many called for collective effort in preserving nature from pollution instead of waiting for the Government and other stakeholders.
To save the earth, we must start from our own home, stated the speakers during the event.
KAKCHING
Sin-Pang Foundation, Kakching also celebrated World Earth Day today at Kakching Public School under the theme "This is Our Power, Our Planet, Renewable Energy" .
During the event, Dr Roma, Associate Professor, HOD of Botany Dept, Kha Manipur College Kakching urged the people to have the habit of carrying environmentally friendly bags instead of Single Use Plastic, to save the environment from plastic waste.
As part of the event, a painting competition on the theme "This Is Our Power, Our Planet, Renewable Energy" was also organised for the students under two categories - Class IV-VII & Class VIII-X .
JIRIBAM
In connection with World Earth Day, Jiribam Municipal Council, JMC today conducted an awareness campaign at Jiri Keithel to apprise the people on the harmful effects of Single Use Plastic.
During the campaign, JMC appealed to the shopkeepers to opt for other environmentally friendly substitutes instead of using Single Use Plastic.
SENAPATI
In a commendable initiative to foster environmental consciousness and strengthen community engagement, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Namai EcoTourism Society, organised a vibrant Earth Day celebration at the scenic Namai Zho Valley in Senapati District.
The event commenced with a tree plantation drive, where a significant number of saplings were planted to support local afforestation efforts and promote ecological sustainability.
This was followed by the distribution of Cosmos seeds, signifying hope, renewal, and the collective responsibility of preserving nature's beauty.
To engage the creative spirit of the youth and raise awareness through artistic expression, a painting competition was also conducted on the theme 'Environmental Conservation' .
KAMJONG
At Wanglee Village, Kamjong District, a Plantation Drive was conducted where 25 locals and Assam Rifles personnel together planted 400 saplings in public spaces and along the Wanglee-Kasong road.
Participants were educated on the harmful effects of deforestation and encouraged to take ownership of the planted trees, promoting long-term sustainability.
TENGNOUPAL
As part of World Earth Day celebration, a Poster Making and Essay Writing Competition was organized by the Assam Rifles at Dr Colvin Academy, Moreh, Tengnoupal District, for students of Classes VIII to X from JJ School.
Approximately 100 students showcased their creativity and environmental awareness through vibrant artworks and thoughtful essays.
In T M Zoumunnoum village, also in Tengnoupal District, Assam Rifles conducted another Tree Plantation Drive with the participation of 28 enthusiastic villagers.
