Bishnupur rowers accorded warm reception for stellar show at 1st North East ASMITA League

Khwairakpam Bidyaluxmi and 16 other rowers from Manipur who won medals at the 1st North East Rowing Regatta 2025 ASMITA League, held at Umiam Lake in Shillong, were given warm receptions at separate functions organised in Bishnupur district on Sunday.
A reception ceremony held at Sendra Chingkhong, Bishnupur, was organised by the Sendra Youth Club (SYC), along with villagers and family members of the players.
The gathering felicitated Khwairakpam Bidyaluxmi, a player of Takmu Water Sports Complex, who clinched two gold medals in the sub-junior single scull (500 metres) and sub-junior double scull (500 metres) events at the ASMITA League.
Speaking at the occasion, Bidyaluxmi stated her achievements were the result of competing in the sub-junior category and added that she would continue to work hard to be able to reach in the international levels and the Olympics.
Bidyaluxmi, a resident of Sendra Chingkhong, is the fourth daughter of Kh Premchand and Chandranganbi.
Meanwhile, 16 medalwinning rowers from Bishnupur district were also felicitated today by Takmu Water Sports Complex, Moirang, and family members of the players.
On their arrival at Moirang, the players made a brief halt at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School before proceeding to Ibudhou Thangjing Moirang Laikol, where they offered prayers.
They later reached Takmu Water Sports Complex for the main reception ceremony.

Indira, coach of the ASMITA League team and mentor of Khelo India, said that a total of 21 players from the State participated in the ASMITA League 2025, including 16 from the Bishnupur District Rowing Association and 5 from the Imphal East Rowing Association, along with two coaches and two managers.
She informed that players from Bishnupur district alone secured 16 gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals, describing the achievement as unprecedented.
She added that this was the first time the ASMITA League was launched for the North East and that players competed in the junior and sub-junior categories.
Indira further pointed out that the equipment currently used by the players for training dates back to the 5th National Games, stressing that with modem equipment and better training facilities, the athletes could reach international and even Olympic standards.
She urged the Government to provide updated rowing equipment and to bear the travel expenses of players, which are presently being met by the athletes themselves.
