State joins celebration of International Day of Yoga

The International Day of Yoga 2025 was observed widely across the State today under the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" to raise awareness about the multiple benefits of Yoga.
Conducting yoga sessions and sensitization of the masses on the importance of Yoga were the highlights of the observations.
JNMDA
The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga 2025 today at its complex in Imphal.
The event was held in collaboration with NSS Cell, Manipur University; State NSS Cell, Manipur; Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA); Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur; and Mera Yuva Bharat, Imphal West, under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The significant celebration witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 1,000 individuals from various institutions and organisations, including NSS programme officers, NSS volunteers, and students from different schools and colleges.
Notably, 150 NSS volunteers, along with their programme officers from both Manipur University and the State NSS Cell, actively took part in the event.
The celebration was graced by dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP and titular King of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba; Sunanda Thokchom, Secretary, MSKA; Padma Shri awardees E Indira Devi and K Shanathoiba Sharma; M Joy Singh, Special Commissioner, Art and Culture, Manipur; and Pukhrambam Bilash Singh, Director, JNMDA.
Speaking on the occasion, Leishemba Sanajaoba highlighted the historical and spiritual significance of Yoga.
"Yoga is an ancient Indian discipline that unites the body, mind, and spirit.
The word 'Yoga' is derived from Sanskrit, meaning 'to join' or 'to unite'.
It reflects the harmony between individual consciousness and universal consciousness".
"Today, yoga is practiced globally and continues to gain prominence due to its immense physical, mental, and spiritual benefits", he added.
Later, all participants actively engaged in performing the Common Yoga Protocol, as prescribed for International Day of Yoga, led by trained instructors.
High Court of Manipur
On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, the High Court of Manipur organised a yoga session under the theme "Yoga for Harmony and Peace" at the High Court Complex today.
Justice A Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, Judge, High Court of Manipur along with members of the Bar Council of Manipur and High Court Bar Association of Manipur, officials and staff of the Registry, Manipur Judicial Academy participated in the event.
The Day was also observed in all the District Court complexes of the State.
RIMS
The International Day of Yoga was celebrated today with great enthusiasm at Gymkhana Hall of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.
The event was graced by Y Rajendra Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; and Prof N Sanjib, Singh, Medical Superintendent RIMS Hospital, as presidium members.
The celebration commenced with live streaming of the Prime Minister's address, followed by speeches highlighting the vital role of yoga in promoting holistic health and sustainable living.
In his address, Y Rajendra Singh shared that the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare had deployed 30 to 40 senior officers nationwide to ensure smooth execution of Yoga Day events.
He commended RIMS for its well-organised programme and stressed that yoga should go beyond institutional observances to become a daily individual practice for better physical and mental health.
Following the inaugural session, a special Yoga Session was held, beginning with an introduction to yoga's health benefits.
The celebration concluded with a collective performance of the Common Yoga Protocol, which saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, students, and healthcare professionals.
Meanwhile, a Continuing Medical Education programme on "Yoga in Health & Diseases- A Physiological Perspective" was also held at Jubilee Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
The session brought together medical professionals and yoga enthusiasts to explore the scientific and therapeutic aspects of yoga.
Distinguished speakers delivered insightful presentations on various topics, highlighting the physiological benefits of yoga in the prevention and management of lifestyle-related diseases, stress disorders, and chronic health conditions.
MASLSA
International Day of Yoga was also celebrated today with much energy and enthusiasm at the office of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), ADR Centre, Lamphelpat.
The event was participated by Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, MASLSA along with the officers and staff members of the office of MASLSA & District Legal Services Authorities.
RK Disila Devi, UDC of MASLSA as Yoga Instructor guided the participants in performing various yoga postures such as surya namaskar, pawan mukta asana, markat asana, nauka asana, kapalbhati, anulom vilom, etc .
Khongnangthaba University
Khongnangthaba University also, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2025 today with a colourful programme organised at the university auditorium.
The programme was jointly organised by the faculty of Allied Health Sciences (AYUSH), College of Pharmacy, College of Paramedical and Kangleipak Medical & Nursing Institute, and College of Paramedical Sciences under Khongnangthaba University.
The celebration was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Aribam Guneshwor Sharma, Director & Dean (AYUSH); Dr Atom Sunil Singh, Registrar; and Prof Ningombam Ibotombi Singh, Controller of Examinations.
A demonstration session on yoga encompassing asanas, pranayama, and guided meditation by professionally certified yoga instructor Dr Neeta Mayengbam were the main highlights of the event.
CRPF
The 86 Battalion CRPF, Lamphelpat, under the aegis of the Inspector General, Manipur & Nagaland Sector, CRPF, celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga on Saturday.
Commandant Shri Saurabh Kumar Choudhary along with all ranks of the battalion, enthusiastically participated in the Common Yoga Protocol.
The mass yoga session took place at the battalion headquarters, Lamphelpat, and at various company locations spread across three districts of Manipur.
As part of the celebrations, a Safai Abhiyan (cleanliness drive) was undertaken in and around the perimeters of the battalion HQ and its company areas.
A tree plantation drive was also organised to support the National campaign, "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam".
The joint initiative witnessed active participation of the local community, Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd, and the PWD Drainage Wing.
Moreover, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur; Oriental College (Autonomous), Imphal; Ibotombi Institute of Education, Canchipur; Manipur International University (MIU); Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang; Sainik School Imphal; Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory; Unique Trust, Kyamgei; Shri Shri Radha Govinda Yoga Centre; Manipur Khadi & Village Industries Board; 1 Manipur Air Sqn NCC; Central Bureau of Communication, Regional Office, Imphal and Sports Authority of India, North East Regional Centre, Imphal; Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Patanjali Yoga Sarniti, Mahila Patanjali Yoga Samiti, and Yuva Bharat & Patanjali Kisan Samiti Manipur also observed the International Day of Yoga.
