Imphal, January 21 2016:
People of Bhalok village,
Tamenglong district have re-
ported presence of a tiger in the
vicinity of the village.
Chief Wildlife Warden PN
Prasad said that they received
reports about presence of a
tiger in the vicinity of Bhalok
village yesterday.
He said that the department
would create awareness
among the villagers in order
to protect the tiger.
He said that no villager
should venture out to forest
areas alone.
It would be safer
if they are in groups of at
least two or three men.
Presence of tiger is a mat-
ter of pride for both the
village and the State as a
whole.
If presence of tiger is con-
firmed, tourists would
definitely come to the village
and funds may be sought for
development of the area,
Prasad said while appealing
to all the people to protect the
tiger.
Notably, one tiger was
killed at Bhalok village in
2005 and footprints of tigers
were discovered in 2009-10
before six cows were killed
by tiger(s) at Tamenglong
Khunjao in 2011-12 .
