Imphal, May 20 2026:
The failure of the Central paramilitary forces to trace and rescue remaining hostages even after six days, despite their large presence in the State, is appalling, said the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur.
In a statement it released yesterday, FOCS said all the remaining hostages must be safely released immediately.
While dozens of Naga and Kuki individuals abducted on May 13 have been released and exchanged in recent days, six Naga men including Church leaders and several Kuki individuals are still believed to be in captivity.
Nearly a week after they were taken hostage, the security forces deployed in Manipur have failed to rescue them.
The State has a large presence of Central paramilitary Forces.
Their inept failure to trace and rescue the hostages reveals that the Government of India "wants to prolong the conflict", FOCS asserted, calling for the safe release of remaining hostages.
In its statement, FOCS also urged the Government to update the National Register of Citizens in Manipur to identify illegal foreigners and deport them to their respective countries.
